Hi Cholla. I will look into this now. Thanks for the tip. A couple years ago I had ProcessExplorer, but I don't think it was for XP at the time. I have since uninstalled TUT cause it was causing me a world of grief with msconfig(conflicts) I can always put it back after this is over. Well, off to the links.

I guess what I'm saying is that without being able to follow them, I can't get to where they want to me to get. I see that you went nighty-nite. Dont' blame you for that. Maybe on the morrow things will a little more fresh, FOR ME :haha:

Well, I'm in a workgroup. I saw that earlier. Ms's paths are off the charts. Almost none of their directions(paths) are correct. Some of the stuff(locations) they said do not exist on my machine. Why wouldn't they just say"right click on 'my computer', click manage and then go to Computer Management, then local groups" etc. I can't do what they're saying cause I don't have those options to click on. When I right on a group I don't get any choices that they're talking about. So, for now, I'm back where I started. I think.

Either I'm not doing it right or it just won't work :( I get the same error about the domain not being right. I went to the users folder and clicked Administrators and then clicked "Add" and typed in the same info as before and got the same response.

Am I supposed to be on a domain? Na, I don't think so. but it has been popping up alot lately. Bad phrase, I guess. I'm begining wonder if I have too many users? Shouldn't I just have one, like me? Can't I just be the Admin. and leave it at that?

Well I can't do anything at all about adding to the Administrators Group. It won't let me cause it is not listed "in the domain group" so therefore it is "not valid" they say. You can't copy and paste, you have to type it in by hand and use their interface window to do it, if you get my drift. I look at these links.

Hey Dude. Well, I'm not all that sure that I'm part of a users group. I took a couple of pics to show you some of the settings. I'll post these now and then tell you what I found out over the weekend about our favorite error and what make it popup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do remember the group thing. I am authorised as a user and administrator. I can't quite figure how to add myself to a group, though, I did enable the account for ms support in the group section.I have not been able to download any updates from ms cause I can't download/install the new windows update installer v/ 3.1 I'm not sure why but I feel that I could use some of the latest updates for SP2, I did enable windows installer in the policy editor, maybe that will help. Ahhh hash, haven't heard ot it eh? It's popular around here. Comes in roast beef or corned beef. Looks like dog food when you take it out of the can. :haha: It would have been great for a Lake Sabago "Sap-ova" breakfast

Well, I did make a few changes to the group policy editor. Nothing earthshaking. I did however, enable all snap-ins and a ditty that enables the system to dowload missing components (com) maybe like the defrag thing, which of course is a snap-in. I'll have to reboot and see what happens I wrote everything down just in case,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Everything in there was not configured except Messenger which I knew was disabled from a long time ago(I have a little ditty that disables it) and keeps it out of the task tray. Well, here goes, reboot time

I'll go for it now, but when you were on vacation, I had to redo the xp repair again just to fix the problems I had with msconfig and tut. Everything was OK after that. I, at that time left all services in their default postitions and since then have only changed a few of the no brainers. I have never, though, clicked on "restore defaults" I will check your links.

The error only comes up if the error isn't there to start with, otherwise if it's already there, nothing happens cept the window freezes. On the defrag thing, I think the error was still on the screen. It doesn't come up when I get the defrag notice. Only when I click on component services. I have never run the default xp defrag uitility. I have always had a third party defragger. Update: I just tried the my computer/manage thing and the defrag notice came up but the error did not. It does not cause the error.

Microfoft suggested that I select "diagnostic mode" in msconfig and restart. So I did. While it was booting(during the blue screen) I got "Executing: C: Windows/system32/wlnotify.dll" It took a few and then it booted WITHOUT THE ERROR. After everything was "on" I went to TUT (the ultimate troubleshooter) to check my startups and got the same error that I was getting befrore I ran the repair process(with the sp cd) a few weeks ago."Windows Scripting Host files is missing". Then I
