PsychoX360Fan Posted December 27, 2005 CID Share Posted December 27, 2005 Sup all. I am joining the FiOS bandwagon ... It was finally available in my area (11746). I have been very unhappy with OOL and there speeds ... 1. I was just wondering what I should be watching for (if anything) as far as the install goes. 2. I have Cablenut - but where is the "fiberoptic" settings? 3. I have a Linksys WRT54G waiting to be hooked up (I did not want the DLink), will/should there be any issues with this router? 4. I have my Tivo and XBOX 360 that will be connected via wireless - will this effect my overall up/down speeds (I am on the 15/2) ... Thanks ... Voltageman Posted December 27, 2005 CID Share Posted December 27, 2005 If you're on the 15/2, your router shouldn't be a problem...The 30/5 gives some routers trouble.... http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;attach=2784 Heres the newest vanburen cablenut settings..Look under the fiberoptic ones for Verizon Fios 15000/2000 PPPoE..(unless you are dhcp, but most likely PPPoE) We get around 12,000-15,000 on our wireless here(we have the 30/5), and I haven't really tried to tweak it too much..(since I never use the wireless)..With some tweaking, you shouldn't lose too much speed if any... As far as install goes....its going to take a while...(we got phone service too, so it took a little longer), but ours went very well, and the installer was very professional... PsychoX360Fan Posted December 27, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 27, 2005 Voltageman - Thank you very much. Is there a difference with the PPPoE/DHCP? Have you had any experience using FiOS on XBOX 360/Live, curious about performance, ease of setup? (This goes out to anyone else as well). If the 15/2 works out well, I am going to move to the 30/5 - for $10 more it's a great deal. Blunted 2 - I am in the 11746 area code (Dix Hills/Huntington area). A Verizon tech mentioned FiOS to me when he was repairing a phone line in my place of business - the tech was very professional and knew his stuff - then he gave me a link to check if it was available in my area. The rest was history.

PsychoX360Fan Posted December 27, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 27, 2005 Well all is well, XBOX and Tivo are running fine... I do have a question on the Dlink - Any way to increase the range on the wireless part? When I had my Linksys 'B' setup, both my Tivo's were at 100% - now only 85-87% with the Dlink. I also noted the firmware is 2.43 and I see on Dlink's site there is a 2.70 - should I upgrade it? Also, are there any performance settings that should be changed? Thanks all... richcornucopia Posted December 27, 2005 CID Share Posted December 27, 2005 I'd upgrade the firmware. For better signal you can try adjusting the placement of the router, or adjust the antenna on it. Having only 85 or 87 percent isnt that bad and you will still get decent speeds.

coknuck Posted December 28, 2005 CID Share Posted December 28, 2005 Yes I think he is lucky because there are people who have crappy service providers with a monopoly in their areas who never up grade. Threse providers have the mentality of its better than dial up.

Threse providers have the mentality of its better than dial up. I was in that boat until 2 months ago....Only had OOL, which for a while was great, until they oversold the node here, and I couldnt get dial up speeds at night, when I was supposed to get 10000/1000...The most I could get at night was 1500/600...Not even close to what I was paying for... Thank god for Fios..

Voltageman Posted December 28, 2005 CID Share Posted December 28, 2005 The node here would burst into flames if I ran at that speed on OOL... Out here they SUCK... I used to slow down to dial up at night...Now its 24/7 top speed..And my ping problems(which OOL's techs told me over and over was a problem with my pc), have mysteriously gone away... Voltageman Posted December 29, 2005 CID Share Posted December 29, 2005 Just to make sure, do you have to put name and pass in the router to login?(your verizon name/pass) I found sometimes you need to change the DefaultReceiveWindow and DefaultSendWindow to a multiple of MSS.. Try to put - 511104 - for the DefaultReceiveWindow, and - 127776 - for DefaultSendWindow. Sometimes I found if the windows are not multiple of MSS, webpages may load slow, and speed tests may be off...Try those values.. I attached 2 ccs with the values adjusted... Try both files and let me know if its any better..
