asubaseball727 Posted January 6, 2006 CID Share Posted January 6, 2006 When I try and put it into standby, I get the error; " The device driver for COM1 device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver" Sorry if its a noobish question, but how would I update the driver? (100!) Thanks
Voltageman Posted January 6, 2006 CID Share Posted January 6, 2006 If you open your device manager, and look under Ports, you should see the com 1 port..I'm assuming whatever you have attached to that port is stopping you...You can right click and choose update driver(thats assuming whatever is attached is showing up under ports, and not somewhere else) What is plugged into that com1 port? asubaseball727 Posted January 6, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 6, 2006 I think an older printer. Whenever I try and update the driver it doesn't work. Do I need to download the updated drivers first?
cholla Posted January 6, 2006 CID Share Posted January 6, 2006 asubaseball727 ; If you no longer have this printer delete it & reboot. If you do in device manager find the printer & check disable in this profile /reboot & try standby if it works then you need to update your driver or if you still have the floppy or cd that came with the printer you can run it & see if it fixes a corrupt file for the printer. tennesseeme Posted January 8, 2006 CID Share Posted January 8, 2006 hardware may not be ACPI compliant, but i can't see XP installing completely without stop screening if this was the case.
