revolucionario Posted January 20, 2006 CID Share Posted January 20, 2006 well i noticed yesterday i was having slow browsing and i called my isp and they told me i had a very weird ip adress 10.54.xxxxxx they tried to change it but didnt worked so i they told me to connect it to my router not directly to the modem and it gave a normal ip 192.xxxx so it kinda worked better and i hanged up because i had class so when i come home at night its slow again as hell and i was wondering what i can do i was thinking to change the ip manually but im not sure about that any suggestions? FallowEarth Posted January 20, 2006 CID Share Posted January 20, 2006 from the command prompt: type netsh winsock reset catalog and hit enter when it completes, it will tell you to restart, do so. then do: netsh int ip reset c:resetlog.txt and hit enter when it completes, it will simply bring back the command line. this will reset your winsock, winsock2 and tcp/ip stack. try a direct connection after that and see what your IP is. FallowEarth Posted January 20, 2006 CID Share Posted January 20, 2006 It will also slow you down and cache your browsing on the proxy server.

FallowEarth Posted January 20, 2006 CID Share Posted January 20, 2006 It means you are now browsing through another machine (hence, proxy). Your PC contacts the proxy server, that proxy contacts the website.

FallowEarth Posted January 20, 2006 CID Share Posted January 20, 2006 Well, you definitely should not have a 10 dot for an IP. And your OS seems to be working ok cause you get a 192 with the router in place. I assume your modem is effed. What does your traceroute look like?
