richcornucopia Posted February 24, 2006 CID Share Posted February 24, 2006 I just got all my parts for my server that I had been waiting on so I can have it hooked up wirelessly at 125 speeds. What I want to do is put it somewhere in the house and have it running 24/7 hooked up by wifi. So far I have gotten all of that done but im having troubles with vnc. When I start the server up and I go to one of my computers I can connect to the server via realvnc and I see the press control alt delte thing for secure passwords or whatever, but when I do this I just get task manager on my computer. Ive tried this on 2 computers and get the same result, after making sure both times I was in the vnc window. What can I do? Is this a realvnc problem? richcornucopia Posted February 24, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 24, 2006 Maybe its time to try a new remote administrative program? Any suggestions?
richcornucopia Posted February 24, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 24, 2006 Well I figured it out, you just right click on the vnc window in the task bar and click send ctrl alt del simple.
Ryan314 Posted February 25, 2006 CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 I use tightvnc.. works flawlessly
Swimmer Posted February 25, 2006 CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 yeah that is one of those little details that no one really thinks about.. however, make sure that you assign a static ip address so that you dont loose the IP that the server is set on.. let me tell ya it is a pain in the ass to go and have to figure out what ip address it is on.. I normally assign my servers below .100 just to keep them seperate from the rest of my addresses.
php Posted February 25, 2006 CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 or just access it by it's hostname...
richcornucopia Posted February 25, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 If it ever changes I can just look on the router and see the dchp client list which isn't too big of a hassle.
DJVageli Posted February 25, 2006 CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 Yea I have VNC too,and when I run it as a server on my laptop,I can always access it from my school, but when I run it on my PC I can never access it..always gives me the message the connection closed..so VNC is a bit weird lol
richcornucopia Posted February 25, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 Maybe a port forwarding issue?
DJVageli Posted February 25, 2006 CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 Nahh..I have it set up as a static IP,and forwarded to port 5900 like it says...same way as the laptop...so now Im going to try tightvnc..sounds much better, and I like the fact that I can download and upload from it
Ryan314 Posted February 25, 2006 CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 yea, tightvnc is more.. basic i believe and less prone for problems
richcornucopia Posted February 25, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 25, 2006 Now that I figured how to do control alt delte on realvnc I think I stick with that, I like the gui better than tightvnc.

Yeah.. but if you are remote.. and the DCHP client renews and then all of your port forwarding is messed up.. you are out of luck until you can get back local.
