I started with the DW6000, crap speeds, now I have DW7000 proffessional and well you can see not much has changed other than I am paying more for those crap speeds. After an hour with Direcway tech, he basically said the bandwidth was low on my satellite..sorry. If I was getting 50-60 upload speeds he could further work with me to improve upon those. Thing is NO MATTER what time I check it (for the past months, weeekdays, weeknights, weekends, etc) I have never gotten better than 50 upload & 600 download. According to the website the "TYPICAL" speeds (not max typical) for proffessional is 100 upload and 650-750 download. obviously mine are nowhere near that. I need major help, or I need someone that is good with explosives.
tommie gorman Posted February 28, 2006 CID Share Posted February 28, 2006 DirecWay lies, as long as you are D/Ling at least 200Kbps. they don't care! Buckeyes69 are you on the 6000 or 7000? Try the TCP Optimizer. Are you clean from spyware and virus? Have you run disk clean up? Have you defragmented your hard drive? Try these for reading: http://www.testmy.net/forum/b-3 http://www.testmy.net/forum/b-12 We can always get those kind of speed scores up. Post back with anymore questions. Buckeyes69 Posted February 28, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 28, 2006 I am on the DW7000. I thought maybe it was the computer so I just went out and bought a brand new computer (needed it anyway). AMD 3200+ 1GB DDR Ram ATI Radeon Pro 9700 (from previous pc) No spyware, no virus, clean hard drive.
Buckeyes69 Posted February 28, 2006 Author CID Share Posted February 28, 2006 As a side note, I have been reading this site for a while trying to figure the problem out, but most of the tweaks appear to be for DW4000. Several people say you can't tweak a self hosted system like the DW7000, so I figured I would post. I tried a few of the tweaks when I had the DW6000 but did not see an improvement. Buckeyes69 Posted March 1, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 1, 2006 I tried to run both tests around 9pm (EST) and it was so slow I gave up. I tried again at 11:30 PM (Eastern Time) and got the following, :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1015 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 124 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: Tue Feb 28 23:29:46 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 18X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.26 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 12.28 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-AZWOJLTD5 :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 108 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 13 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (main) Test Time:: Tue Feb 28 23:31:16 EST 2006 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 78.77 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 28.57 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-PIKAR2Y3V For whatever reason those are the fastest times I have gotten in the 6 months I have had the unit. Not sure what changed.
tommie gorman Posted March 1, 2006 CID Share Posted March 1, 2006 Beleive it or not some tweaks take time to take hold. Even though people say reboot to set in, some times it takes a little longer to actually work into system. Hope this was the case for you! It is a lot of the time for me. Even though most it comes in right away, some it comes later. Unfortuanately then you don't know which one worked best!

That wasn't due to the tweaks, it was because he used a more accurate test file
Buckeyes69 Posted March 1, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 1, 2006 Yeah, but I ran those same "more accurate" test files earlier in the day and it was the same as the night before. I have a nagging feeling there was some sort of bandwidth choke that "magically" disappeared when I called & complained. Maybe not...but I didn't do ANY new tweaks...what I read I had done already. I'll check it again tonight around 9 and see what I get.

Buckeyes69 Posted March 2, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 2, 2006 The latest (high) speeds that I tested were from a computer running wireless. I also have a PC that is hard wired and I was originally testing on that PC. Other than the router, I don't have any additional firewall running.
