Hello, I have joined about 2 other forums in the past but none has been as helpful as this one (I hope) I would like to increase my internet speed because it has been going uber-slow and I thought at first that it was my cablenut settings, hopefully someone can help me

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 192 Kbps about 0.19 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)

Download Speed is:: 23 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net  (Server 1)

Ok, From this https://testmy.net/forum/t-2097:

Step 1: I'm running Windows XP

Step 2: SBC Yahoo DSL, 1.5 MB Down / I dunno Up

Step 3: Cablenut & "DRTCP" SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer

TCP properties for IP = xx.xxx.xx.180 ()

Browser/OS = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2

Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 020405ac0103030101010402

MTU = 1492

MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.

MSS = 1452

MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising your MTU value.

Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 128480

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 1 bits (scale factor of 2)

Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 64240

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.

Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)

127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

63888 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your TCP Window limits you to: 5139.2 kbps (642.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

Your TCP Window limits you to: 2055.68 kbps (256.96 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 55 hops

TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

Edit: Took out IP address.

Guest helloimtim

I noticed you have dsl. From my experience xp by default is pretty tweaked out for dsl. Messing with the settings for dsl can and will make things worse. I would rest to xp default and and see what that does for ya.

Guest helloimtim

Did you try to reset your settings back to default?? From personal experience I did the same as you did. Messed with dsl settings and made it tons worse. Use the tcp/ip to reset them back to default. I am willing to bet that will cure the problem. I am not sure about this one. I THINK if you remove all the settings from cable nut with nothing in the boxes and save then reboot that may return the default settings as well. Not sure about that though.

Possibly Vanburen or someone else could give me a cablenut settings to increase my down/upload speed? I'm sure that cablenut can optimize my internet & not mess it up

Yeah I defrag like every 2 days, actually I've been getting better speeds when I cleared out all the cablenut settings minus the Default Recieve Window, there I put 65535, I'll post my speeds with that tomorrow, right now I'm using 3 peer-to-peer applications so it would be void
