andythedrummer Posted April 21, 2006 CID Share Posted April 21, 2006 Wildblue claims that they email you once you reach 90% of your upload or download FAP limit.
tommie gorman Posted April 22, 2006 CID Share Posted April 22, 2006 I understand that hughes only lasts about 4 hrs., so I would probably have dial-up for that, if it became a problem. Do you D/L and U/L much?
drquack11223 Posted April 22, 2006 Author CID Share Posted April 22, 2006 Can you guys notice a difference when on satellite when you surf the internet rather than using dial up? (I forgot to mention that i cant play source at all on dial up. I get horrible ping =/ )
tommie gorman Posted April 22, 2006 CID Share Posted April 22, 2006 Pardon my language, but hell yes. 28k to 1000 k. no doubt. And ram increases are great also. Like turbocharged. Would not go back to dial-up. Only problems I have heard are in large files, or gaming. Otherwise great.
drquack11223 Posted April 23, 2006 Author CID Share Posted April 23, 2006 Cool, well i've tinkered with a few ideas here. A friend of mine uses one of those verizon cards that go into your computer that use verizon's cell towers to access the internet. He says i can get up to 1 mb dl and a few hundred kb upload with that bad boy. I figure it would be better because the signal does not travel that far. Any idea on what yoiu guys think? Im gonan go research...
resopalrabotnick Posted April 23, 2006 CID Share Posted April 23, 2006 anything that is terrestrial is better than bouncing your packets off the moon with d-way or wildblue. you might be able to get a card for the cellular hookup with a connector for an external antenna. that way you can point a directional one at the nearest tower (fixed house installation) and increase the stability of the link. tommie gorman Posted April 23, 2006 CID Share Posted April 23, 2006 That would be a lot faster than sat. The only thing sat. is better than in USA is dial-up. Or maybe 128 isdn. Research is cheaper than a mistake any day. Good luck.
deserttoad Posted April 23, 2006 CID Share Posted April 23, 2006 Just got sat, WildBlue. Test shows over 400 download, but the latency really kills ya. For just general surfiing, it doesn't seem much faster than my 26 dialup, but when I go to dl a large file, it's way faster. I can download close to 30k/sec, better than my 2 or 3k/sec with my dialup. DT
tommie gorman Posted April 23, 2006 CID Share Posted April 23, 2006 So you have not got a chance to tweak it yet? Try one of these: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013 If that don't work in a coupole of days, post back or PM me and I will get you something that may do the trick. And don't forget to let the cablenut set in a couple, three days to get full effects.
