dlewis23 Posted April 23, 2006 CID Share Posted April 23, 2006 ijared welcome to the forum. what is your advertised speed. and have you tried to tweak your connection at all?
FallowEarth Posted April 23, 2006 CID Share Posted April 23, 2006 Welcome ijared. Take a read through this: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097 Also, "10.82 % of your hosts average (ntl.com)" means that you are being compared against all the other members on all the speed packages of that ISP. I would disregard it for the timebeing. We will need to know your advertised speeds. Should be on your ISP's website, otherwise give them a call and ask. Good luck! ijared Posted May 2, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 2, 2006 HELLO, I am on a 2Mb Broadband package. I hope this information will mean something. Ijared
tommie gorman Posted May 2, 2006 CID Share Posted May 2, 2006 Also who is your provider? It does mean you need help. Are you virus and spyware clean? Have you defragged and cleaned out your registry? Just read through these: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257 http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-11975 And then and only then try reading here: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013 And next time instead of the smart test, try the 2992 test file. tommie gorman Posted May 2, 2006 CID Share Posted May 2, 2006 By the way, what type of connection is that anyway? DSL, cable, satellite, wifi?
TriRan Posted May 3, 2006 CID Share Posted May 3, 2006 tommie look at http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/broadband looks like cable to me
tommie gorman Posted May 3, 2006 CID Share Posted May 3, 2006 Man, 2mb cable, slow for cable, but not a bad speed if you could reach it. And thanks TriRan. I would definately go for the cablenut after you clean it up. I would test with the 2992 file test also, instead of the smart test.
ijared Posted May 3, 2006 Author CID Share Posted May 3, 2006 Yes it is cable. Sorry but what do you mean by going for the cablenut after I clean it up. How do I clean it up? I have tested my connection with SmarTest but you suggest I test with the 2992 file test also. How do I do that? Sorry for these questions as I am not used to these termimilogy. tommie gorman Posted May 3, 2006 CID Share Posted May 3, 2006 The first links are things to clean it up. Remove virus's, spyware, defrag your hard drive, clean out you registry, and such. You should have a clean computer to make sure you are getting any help from the cablenut settings. Also if you do the cablenut first, you may not think you have not done anything. But the dirty comp gets in the way. As far as the 2992kb goes, just click on the "Largest - 2992 kB" and use it instead. It will give your computer time to warm up some for the test. Giving a better if not faster speed result. And make sure to clean out your cache first, before testing. Top of your screen*Tools*internet options*delete cookies*delete files including offline content*OK*OK* test. If you are going to be pasting your scores, just clean out your files.
