The Reverend Posted January 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 11, 2005 That's what I am trying to figure out! heheh... It certainly wasn't tweaking unless DWay did something at NOC in response to my last hate-mail ...but over the last hour it's been steadily climbing with complete drop-outs now and then ....so I am assuming they are resetting my account exactly as I have asked them to do (complete with numbers ....the whole nine yards). lol... However, I'd sooner think it was the latter ...but of course!

VanBuren Posted January 11, 2005 CID Share Posted January 11, 2005 Everyone is asleep now, nice for a 6000 though. yea that can be one reason, and very nice indeed I seen higher DW 6000 scores, but with small testfiles thats not accurate the 2992 KB file is very accurate in this speed VanBuren

The Reverend Posted January 12, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 12, 2005 I know that at the present time DirecWay is in the process of adding several thousand switches to their systems to accomodate the increase in customers they have walking through their doors, which has been triple what they expected so they were unprepared (meaning for their DW6000 systems ...any of them). Eventually, they'll have obtained enough bandwidth to be able to keep everyone running at a decent speed, but for the time-being everyone is going to be seeing fluctuations of all kinds in their speeds until everyone has their own switch again. Sometimes steadily increasing only to fall through the floor, and vice versa. So far mine seems to be stable and averaging 1000Kbps, but dropping to as low as 50Kbps at 2PM for the past two days ....which makes it impossible to check mail let alone work this forum! That's fine. After all, if I had a screaming connection speed all I would do is hit my FAP limit too fast, then have to wait until I became "un-FAP'ed" ....so 1000Kbps is good enough considering all aspects of this type of Internet connection. (But I could easily live without the danged FAP limits)!
resopalrabotnick Posted January 12, 2005 CID Share Posted January 12, 2005 hm, wonder how much the speed is a function of available switches and how much of users having to share the high but not unlimited bandwidth on the birds. that would also explain drops during bad atmospheric condition/high use times. The Reverend Posted January 12, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 12, 2005 AHA! Then there is no doubt you have an extensive background (and hands on) in the electronics field. A killer combo. I received all my training from the US Navy S.E.A.L. team (retired now). Learned alot in between getting shot at! lol.... Toward the end of my career with the TEAM ...we had the pleasure of working with your KSK for about a month. Traded alot of inside info and discovered that they were treated just as rotten as we were! lol... but that's all part of being special forces. Nobody gets any slack! vielen Dank for your bit of info!

The Reverend Posted January 12, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 12, 2005 Argh! LOL ....you guys and your DW4000's have it made! If I could only figure out the electronics inside this DW6000 I could be a millionaire! heheh...But, it's fast enough for me, and with the Commercial Service Plan it has everything I need seeing that there is NO alternative in my area (Costa Rica). Isn't it amazing that the DW4000's will blow off the caps set by DirecWay? Blows my mind, but I see it at least 50 times a day and it never fails to floor me. The fastest I've ever been is posted at the top of this forum, but, the day the system was installed I was getting a clean 2004. Eight hours later DirecWay chopped me down to 1000Fbps (I am supposed to have 1.5Mbps) ...so right now they are not getting paid and can't shut me down because I have them locked in a court battle. I know I'll win, so between now and then my service is free! LOL....so I don't complain about speed too loudly. They are being good about it too. I still get treated quite nicely with all the perks, and they give me access to everything I need to do my best at this forum ...so all things considered DWay is (overall) not all that bad of a company ....they just have a few issues that need tending to, and I am trying to attend to as many of them as possible. NICE SPEED! Sat-Mex5 or G11? "The Rev"

The Reverend Posted January 12, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 12, 2005 Well, if you know what frequency you are on, only ONE of the satellites support that frequency. Brainfart at the moment and I can't remember how to bring up what frequency you are on! lol Give me a few and it'll come to me. Sorry 'bout that! Be back with ya in a few. (Calling DWay now). lol... The Reverend Posted January 13, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 13, 2005 Thanks Lance! It's been so long since I've had DWay installed that I just could NOT remember how I used to do it! DUH! Thank you VERY much! (With the 6000s, you open up your choice of pages in your browser and have access to over 500 functions within the modem)! Trouble is, they won't give the users a manual ...they want a 'cut of the action' each time a tech comes out and reads out of his manual that he paided big bucks for. grrr.... Cheers! The Reverend Posted January 14, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 14, 2005 Thanks, but you know, considering that it is a Commercial Account, a DW6000AU modem, and their most EXPENSIVE darned plan ...you'd think I would get better! I am supposed to be pulling down 1.5 with an 'enhanced' up of 256k ....it was installed in late October and I am still waiting. My 4000 Pro system blew this one away ...but I'm stuck with it and they know it ...yet I will win eventually! (evil laughter). Why you say? Aren't you getting at least CLOSE to me? If not, you should be! And if not, I'd be glad to take a look at things for you... Cheers! The Reverend
