famously_infamous Posted June 25, 2006 CID Share Posted June 25, 2006 when i ran the test, i got speeds waay below what i should be getting with cable; i got arnd 54-99 kbs but anyways, here are the stats: -Windows XP -Earthlink, i believe it should be 5 Mbps -I don't think i have installed any tweaking progs and these are the results from the analyzer: TCP options string = 020405b401010402 MTU = 1500 MTU is fully optimized for broadband. MSS = 1460 Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS. I am also connecting through a router if that makes a difference help is much appreciated Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535 RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 65535 Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535). tommie gorman Posted June 25, 2006 CID Share Posted June 25, 2006 Welcome to the forum famously_infamous Hint, before you tweak with cablenut, clean out your computer. It works better that way. Or you may not see much difference. And wonder why. Read: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-4257
famously_infamous Posted July 1, 2006 Author CID Share Posted July 1, 2006 thnx for the advice, but its still not running at optimal speed... i'm getting: ::::::::::.. testmy.net test results ..:::::::::: Download Connection is:: 1343 Kbps about 1.34 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Download Speed is:: 164 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 375 Kbps about 0.38 Mbps (tested with 748 kB) Upload Speed is:: 46 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/06/30 - 7:07pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-6ELUD02TF U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-3EG04OWHQ User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) i got a higher dl speed, but that's still no where near what i should be running at (5Mbps)....is there any other way to squeeze every nook and cranny out of my ISP? and i've already cleaned out my computer before doing the cablenut thing
tommie gorman Posted July 1, 2006 CID Share Posted July 1, 2006 famously_infamous are you running through a wireless router? If so try testing directly through your modem and paste a score.

tommie gorman Posted July 1, 2006 CID Share Posted July 1, 2006 Are you using the smart test? Try using the 2992 file test directly. Also, are you cleaning out your cache? tommie gorman Posted July 2, 2006 CID Share Posted July 2, 2006 famously_infamous could you make sure what your advertised speeds are. "Earthlink, i believe it should be 5 Mbps" At least we doubled your speeds, but not enough though.
dlewis23 Posted July 2, 2006 CID Share Posted July 2, 2006 famously_infamous try doing a speed test from server 2 http://www.testmy.net/o-000-2 and post your results. also have you tried any tweaking if not go here http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-11975 there are 2 programs you can try the first is TCP optimazer, the second is cable nut. i recommend cablenut bit if you want to try something very easy use TCP optimazer. also have you done spyware and virus scans? rammolo Posted July 2, 2006 CID Share Posted July 2, 2006 Have your modem checked by your ISP.
FallowEarth Posted July 4, 2006 CID Share Posted July 4, 2006 Can you please provide the results from the Tracert and Ping program from the STICKY. Looks like your upload is ok, but your download is being leeched. Please provide the name of the cablenut file you used, plus run THIS TEST again so we can inspect your settings. Keep in mind that your download bandwidth might be shared with other applications which are running, ie. p2p clients, download managers, bandwidth monitors, IM's, security software..... and the list goes on. What you can do is remove your startup items from the System Configuration Utility (Start>Run>MSCONFIG, Startup tab). Otherwise, try to boot to Safe Mode with Networking (tap F8 on startup) and run a speedtest from there.
