disturbed Posted June 26, 2006 CID Share Posted June 26, 2006 the major difference is that the fx60 has an unlocked multiplier - which is only important while overclocking - other than that, its unrelevant
RAINMAKA Posted June 26, 2006 CID Share Posted June 26, 2006 you will be fine with the 4800+, i dont think you would be able to notice a major difference between 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz
disturbed Posted June 26, 2006 CID Share Posted June 26, 2006 like i said....600 will not be buying you 200mhz, it will buy you an unlocked multiplier - but considering it is a laptop - you wont be doing overclocking - those processors will run hot as is
resopalrabotnick Posted June 26, 2006 CID Share Posted June 26, 2006 you can prolly fry eggs on that laptop. does it have battery runtime or do you have to have it plugged in all the time?

RTB Posted June 26, 2006 CID Share Posted June 26, 2006 The biggest difference, other than the unlocked multiplier, is that the FX is AMD's gaming chip. meaning that it will hose the X2 in gaming.. However, in normal everyday use they are basically the same chip.. Eitherway X2 of FX you are getting an awesome processor.. Not really, FX series chips are generally cherry-picked and clock somewhat better, also thanks to the unlocked multi. But a x2 4800+ at 2.6 Ghz will be just as fast as a FX60 at stock, even in games. Swimmer Posted June 26, 2006 CID Share Posted June 26, 2006 AMD advertizes it at their gaming chip where as the X2 is their "main-stream" this is what I was able to find atleast on the benchmarks side.. as far as gaming goes.. you are going to be looking at about 15-25 fps faster on some games with an FX-
RTB Posted June 26, 2006 CID Share Posted June 26, 2006 AMD advertizes it at their gaming chip where as the X2 is their "main-stream" It's 200 Mhz faster at stock. If you lower the multi on the FX60 there absolutely no speed difference. The cores are basically identical.

The cores are basically identical. they are close to the same, but that 200MHz makes a differenece. plus more cache makes a big difference. That's why I say that if you overclock the 4800+ to 2.6 Ghz, or downclock the FX60 to 2.4 Ghz you'll have exactly the same amount of performance. Cache size is 1MB per core on both processors.
