coknuck Posted July 11, 2006 CID Share Posted July 11, 2006 I have a Socket A motherboard that burned out. I was thinking of replacing it with a Socket 939 Board. My question is do I have to reformat my hard drive to do this? Or is it a pretty straight foreward board replacement. I already have PC3200 ram. rammolo Posted July 11, 2006 CID Share Posted July 11, 2006 Hi, Usually you should be able to boot up with your current partition.

disturbed Posted July 11, 2006 CID Share Posted July 11, 2006 by all means go with a new format - many times just replacing the motherboards wont work, plus its great to get rid of all the junk

eatdirt40 Posted July 16, 2006 CID Share Posted July 16, 2006 You may need to reformat, sometimes swapping HD's to mobo's work, sometimes it doesnt. Be prepared to format if worst case scenario happens. 420 watts should be enough, given you arent using a top top end video card.
