mogramjo Posted January 2, 2007 CID Share Posted January 2, 2007 grandpa...I had to revert to dialup last night...my cable..oh so good for awile after I moved my pc and stuff to the inlet for the connection. (inlet?) Inny who...I seem to be having to tinker with this dratted Cox cable so, when it's good...it's very good and when it's bad it's horrid. Maybe it's also got a 'curl on it's forehead' somewhere I can't see. I thought took out all the 'kinks' but turns out not...I get pretty tired of fiddling with it...but then that's what we do in the forum beyond have fun and socialize...which helps a lot!!! Not a bad New Year's Eve though...oddly enough. Hope yours was good
granpa Posted January 2, 2007 CID Share Posted January 2, 2007 mogramjo Inlet, isn't that where the boats come in? I could be wrong though, if your landlocked. I hardly ever loose my satellite connection, slower but steady. Right at midnight many around here fire off their guns :ar15fire:to note the start of the new year.. Not a bad new year so far, got to 52 degrees here but the ground is saturated from all the rain we have been having. We have a community feast at noon so I went to eat this afternoon with the grandkids and their parents. We had rabbit pie, venison, something they called ham, mashed potatoes/gravy, squash, beans, corn bread (not the yellow corn) and I finished with cherry pie and coffee. mogramjo Posted January 2, 2007 CID Share Posted January 2, 2007 Oh grandpa...I made a nice mess of stuff, not quite that selection but I'd not turn up my nose even at 'something they called ham' hahaha. Yum! Mine was good NYE and NYD...it's 9:13pm...and I'm still breathin' so it's a good day...
tommie gorman Posted January 2, 2007 CID Share Posted January 2, 2007 I am not sure what he is referring to, but they have this ham loaf in stores @ 5 # that I will not buy. It is labeled ham, but the taste is no where near... I don't care how cheap. I prefer bone in with pineapple and cherries stuck in the side with picks, and the juice squirted over it every 20 minutes. Now that is tasty. Mom used to also add brown sugar. And I don't mean the spiral sliced either. (dried up crap ) They ruin it that way. It don't take long to slice one up.
mogramjo Posted January 2, 2007 CID Share Posted January 2, 2007 That's all extra good too tommie...I try not to be too fussy. The venison, ya! I think what grandpa *may* be sayin' with all those country eats on the groaning board is country ham...which this city slicker very seldom sees! tommie gorman Posted January 2, 2007 CID Share Posted January 2, 2007 About the only difference between a city slicker and a contry person, is what do you see, smell, taste, and hear when you step out of your front door. Gotta love it. mogramjo, tommie, All fresh food, I guess you could say it's in the can when it's being cooked. The game was taken on Saturday on what we call "Hunting Day". That night all the game is brought in and there are two teams, Young Men and Old Men. The only difference is a young man has no kids, so one could be 70, which I have seen. Captains start counting one at a time and as each piece is brought out the other team has to match it. One point for rabbit, pheasant, turkey may be 5 but I have forgotten, but a deer is 50 points. The score this year 65 old men, 8 young men. The losing team has to skin since they didn't work as hard. The best part is that since now most everyone is busy all year it gets them together to end a year and start a new year.

granpa Posted January 3, 2007 CID Share Posted January 3, 2007 I have a question, what are tweaks and where do I get them? mogramjo Posted January 3, 2007 CID Share Posted January 3, 2007 good question grandpa...here's a cuppa while I (noobie though I am at helping here)...try to assemble a few thoughts and links perhaps that will guide rather than give you a bum-steer. First off, my stuff for 'tweaks' (little adjustments of one kind or another) and 'cablenut', one of our really BIG shot's work that sets one up to be able to 'twiddle' (haha, more tech talk)..are both in 2 folders on my desktop...each labelled as those 2 items. They are *under* this window...hahaha. be back if/when I get behind it and can re-acquaint m'self..hoping to see the light for a satellite(?) connected Win2K. Hmmm... (__)?. It's good exercise for me to 'try'. But meanwhile, maybe less new helpers may just point you in the right direction straight away...they sure have been helpful when I merely lurked and read of solutions!. Hmmm. While I was 'still' in the happy wilderness of Googling my brains out for answers, in your boat (and I was there..hoping for better download rate) I'd have first gone through the links in this bit of Googling: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=tweaks+for+satellite+with+win2000 VanBuren's 'Cablenut Settings' comes in here eventually, after you fathom which/what/where of getting Cablenut for Win2k. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-1013 *Please friends..help here as to which what he needs in terms of direct route and how-to on that..I can guide, but not 'steer' too well * thanks But that's rough start... Here's another necessary step to kind of plug in your Latency and such...for figures to plug into the..ahem 'analyzer.exe' (which is the right-arm of Cablenut, once *that* is found by you and installed. But we don't have that yet? I know.. http://www.j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php (I wish I could just *hand* those Folders to ya..be easiest..takes some mental energy to figure which of what may be just the thing to try) Keep on keepin' Grandpa...have a good day

Keep on keepin' Grandpa...have a good day Thanks mogramjo, Your always a pleasure to read and elusive too. I see you signed in and next your gone so off I go surfing and when I come back you've already been back and gone again. From what I have read I don't think there are any tweaks other than more money for more speed, but thanks for the help, I'll read on. lately my uploads have dropped a little but the other side has jumped up making snappier browsing. Another question, what is this (__)? My PC experience started in 1998 when I bought my first PC and had to read the manual to find the start button. Messed that one up many many times. I also got my first big satellite dish that spring and I still use it. A few months I got a call from Hughes for DirecPC One-Way and a PCI modem. Thats when I caught the "tech virus". Downloading seemed instantaneous then using sat. Now 3 PC's here and built by me. Got to get back to hunting and fishing, cheaper.
mogramjo Posted January 3, 2007 CID Share Posted January 3, 2007 Well grandpa...those ideas put up for your Win2K + connection type...which I wasn't sure of...are all fine and good, but I left OUT the two that may be more useful...always and ever, some of my brains must have been toasted since moving to AZ..hee so, before the rest of the forum spanks me for forgetting these *Tcp Optimizer*..it's one of 'our' favorites..helps a bunch all by itself: it's not a big download either https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php *Tcp Analyzer* from SpeedGuide.net gives the low-down on all the Rwin-(receive window) and a a ton more: https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php? I don't mean to be elusive but I'm still puttering with my stupid stuff here..hahaha. It's great though, I love it
