DiRt DeViL Posted August 17, 2006 CID Share Posted August 17, 2006 When I switched from dsl to cable y purchased this router in order to connect my 3 desktops via ethernet and the laptop via wireless. Really soon noticed that all the cabled connection indicators turned orange (10mbps) instead of the usual green (100mbps). This changes when the router is rebooted and everything works at a 100mbps but suddenly changes back to 10. I emailed Belkin support and their response was to force the NIC speed to 10 in order to avoid this problem, what's the idea of having 10/100 ports and you can't use the max speed? Has anyone here seen or heard about this?
Swimmer Posted August 17, 2006 CID Share Posted August 17, 2006 most cable modems only run at 10mbps... so it is trying to "optimize" your connection... You can for it to 100 also.. i believe..
dlewis23 Posted August 17, 2006 CID Share Posted August 17, 2006 this happens to a buddy of mine as well, his dsl modem only does 10mbps, so it dropes everything down to 10mbps aswell, its just something that, that router does.
DiRt DeViL Posted August 17, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 17, 2006 So you're telling me that I should put everything at 10? When it goes the 10 on its own I usually have to reset it because things stop working right.
gotmilk Posted August 18, 2006 CID Share Posted August 18, 2006 That's pretty dumb, what if you want to have a 100 Mbps LAN in your house? Surely there's a way to force at least the LAN ports to 100 Mbps.
php Posted August 18, 2006 CID Share Posted August 18, 2006 On the computer yeah... but the router might not want to go along with it...
DiRt DeViL Posted August 18, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 18, 2006 If I change the NIC speed to 100 it would not work, it only seems to work on auto or 10; weird but that's the truth. The router doesn't have the option to set port speeds, I may just get a better one.
dlewis23 Posted August 18, 2006 CID Share Posted August 18, 2006 DiRt DeViL update the router to the newest firmware.
Swimmer Posted August 18, 2006 CID Share Posted August 18, 2006 You should be able to select the port speed for the wan port.. check the firmware like dlewis said.. They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they can do 10/100 on the wan port..
DiRt DeViL Posted August 19, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 19, 2006 It's on Firmware Version 6.00.10, their update is to an older version 6.00.03. Guess, that I'm stuck.
netmasta Posted August 19, 2006 CID Share Posted August 19, 2006 You could check each computer's nic and make sure that they're not set to 10/100 Auto (detect). Some router/nic combo's don't seem to work well with the auto detection.
DiRt DeViL Posted August 19, 2006 Author CID Share Posted August 19, 2006 Tried 100 and doesn't work but works on 10 or Auto so all of them are on Auto
