The Reverend Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 WOW Brawny ...they've got your speeds hopping all over the place! LOL...But ..at least it shows that their work is slowly pulling it all back together. I am well-pleased that we don't have to get inside you software and start from scratch! lol.... Be Blessed! BrawnyDawg Posted January 16, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 it's odd thouhg. the IE is fast and Firefox is slower...last week it was the opposit. Is this possibly because of what they are doing or is my Firefox messing up?
The Reverend Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 According to "The Book", it is because IE6 and the DW6000 were "made for each other." As good as Mozilla' lightweight is, it just can't hack the computations that are involved when dealing with the latency issues peculiar to satellite comm only, and so for the majority of DWay users, it should stand true that IE5 or 6 will blow away ANY other browser (except for Opera "text only" ....but as I said in another post, who can stand to browse without all the cool pics eh? LOL!!! I am happy fer ya! Let's pray it stays that way! Next month, Dway will have a new surprise for us ....they never fail me! lol.... Cheers! BrawnyDawg Posted January 16, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 Must be a conspiracy after last wekend> IE is humming still! The only twweks I did to my system last week was the indexing tweak you suggested... IE :::.. The Reverend Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 Wow Brawny, What we have done is to have found the majic key to unlock your modem via your registry, and those tweaks are what does it. Those are some killer speeds, however to get the most accurate speed use the 2992 file and it will tell you your true speed with one or two Kbps. Bear in mind that it changes constantly since Satellite communications is so 'fickle', but over the long run lit looks like YOU DO NOT WANT TO TOUCH THAT DIAL! lol Cheers! I am busy getting the new server off the ground, so I'll be back sometime after 12PM (EST USA) Cheers! The Reverend
rlh24 Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 You are not alone with this BrawnyDawg. I have been experiencing the exact same thing. In fact firefox feels almost like dialup now. Here is what I am getting right now with each browser. IE :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 992 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is:: 121 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 18 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 8.46 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=9OA13KLX7 Firefox Well that was interesting. I can not even get a test to complete now using firefox. Strange and sad since I love firefox.
BrawnyDawg Posted January 16, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 Ywa, I am glad someone else is eeing this. Firefox rocks compared to IE!
The Reverend Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 Not when you are using a DW6000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FireFox and the DW6000 hate each other. lol
BrawnyDawg Posted January 16, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 How come I was slamming IE the last couple of weeks w/Firefox...??
The Reverend Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 Trouble at DirecWay's NOC is all ....plus they were/are getting Horizons 1 online ....plus a Server (new) went crazy on them. Now that everything is back to normal....IE will "Rule" and Firefox will continue to be a lightweight that will work, but can't be tweak nearly as hot as IE6. Simple. Mr Ranger Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 I'm using both and I can't figure why so many like Fox over IE?
The Reverend Posted January 16, 2005 CID Share Posted January 16, 2005 I hear ya Mr. Ranger. I have the other browsers set up for testing, but I only use IE6 because in my humble opinion it just has better software behind it, and I have no trouble with security ....and it seems that more you use FireFox the worse things get messed up inside your Registry over the long run. So ....to each their own, but IE is FAR better than anything when you are using DirecWay ...especially with a DW6000! That's straight from the people who built the DW6000 for Hughes!
