rjventre Posted September 17, 2006 CID Share Posted September 17, 2006 My isolation for my direcway dish stays between 62 and 68, is this normal or should it be higher? My signal strength stays between 70 and 75, is this normal or should it be better? Also, is IA8 the number of a satellite? I ask this because I know G11 is one. I got the IA8 on the e-mail that I received from hughesnet after placing the order for the HN7000s modem yesterday. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you. tommie gorman Posted September 17, 2006 CID Share Posted September 17, 2006 My sig strength is 57 right now and normal for mine. Someday I will get that repointed. It could be as high as 90+. But speeds should be the same pretty much. Yes that (IA8 is your satelite, transponder). I could not find any isolation info, you might clue me in on that one. rjventre Posted September 17, 2006 Author CID Share Posted September 17, 2006 Do you know if IA8 is DVBS-2 compatible?
tommie gorman Posted September 17, 2006 CID Share Posted September 17, 2006 Do you know if IA8 is DVBS-2 compatible? After looking that one up, I am going to assume you mean HDTV?
Bird Fan Posted September 18, 2006 CID Share Posted September 18, 2006 My signal strength is at 42, no problems.
ghostmaster Posted September 18, 2006 CID Share Posted September 18, 2006 The only sat that is DVBS-2 compatible is IA6. But they all will eventually. Then again, in a couple of years, it won't matter when SpaceWay 3 goes up. As far as signal strength is concerned, you must remember it's a digital signal. So the strength doesn't necessarily mean it will effect performance. The higher, the better rain fade you will have.

ghostmaster Posted September 18, 2006 CID Share Posted September 18, 2006 It's Hughesnet's next satellite platform. Spaceway 3 is the name of the sat. http://www.hughesnet.com/HUGHES/Rooms/DisplayPages/LayoutInitial?Container=com.webridge.entity.Entity%5BOID%5B1F25CC9CF1479743B2C83A5CF6F811F0%5D%5D
tommie gorman Posted September 18, 2006 CID Share Posted September 18, 2006 Up to 16 Mbps " connectivity at rates of from 512 Kbps up to 16 Mbps. " , guess that won't be available without a price!
sixkidsrob Posted September 20, 2006 CID Share Posted September 20, 2006 Ok folks Satellite providers have names that relate to their fleet. Signal strength is digital and will vary in relationship to the footprint and size of the dish. Hughes sells a .74 and most link-budgets call for .98 + , You also must consider the size (wattage) of the transmitter. For the most part if you want a system that performs near cable or dsl, you need a 1.2 Meter dish with a 2+ watt BUC. What your equipment needs to do is 'close the carrier' - hughes has small carriers because their transmitters (BUCs) are too small. Add in over-subscription rates that are ridiculous, and you have upload speeds that stink. The satellite is about 30K miles away. The size of the dish, the size of the BUC, the type of cable, the type of connectors, the type of mount, the modem, and last... the network all play a part in your connection! Most providers wildlue, hughes, starband all suck you in with price. With a cheap price often comes higher costs and poor performance. Check this link out. http://internet-satellite.org/is/index.html You need to spend some cash to get stuff that works - but how is that different from anything else. ghostmaster Posted September 20, 2006 CID Share Posted September 20, 2006 It's different because most of us who aren't living within reach of cable or dsl can't afford 2000+ worth of crap just to have broadband at home. And if we could, we wouldn't be using Hughes, we'd be using something on IDirect. The 2 real problems with Hughes are over subscriptions, and a few subpar installers, who frankly just don't give a crap. And right now, speeds with Hughes are worse than ever during peak hours, with a lot of people getting dialup speeds during peak hours. That's what I get for thinking Hughes would improve after finally breaking away from DirecTV.....

tommie gorman Posted September 20, 2006 CID Share Posted September 20, 2006 sixkidsrob, a lot of us do get DSL speeds at night. But only at night. When the bandwidth is free'd up. Buying all that crap will only help if they do not oversell so much. So back to square one. Satelite sucks. And you guys with those astounding speeds suck. Didn't your momma teach you to share? ghostmaster Posted September 20, 2006 CID Share Posted September 20, 2006 Hey Im on Hughes at night Tommie, you must be on a freak transponder, because almost everyone else has slow downloads at night, and great during the day. Unless you are on a mostly business transponder. In that case, your peak hours would be during the day. I was on 1310 when I was on the DW6000 too, and I think I remember it being that way then.... Pity I couldn't get back on that one....

tommie gorman Posted September 21, 2006 CID Share Posted September 21, 2006 Just curious ghostmaster, why did you go with the pro account this time? Not for the speeds!

tommie gorman Posted September 21, 2006 CID Share Posted September 21, 2006 OK, then you cannot change it to a cheaper price? Or are you hoping it will get fast again? I guess I always here on here how pro is just never any faster than consumer. How consumer will tweak up the difference anyway.
ghostmaster Posted September 21, 2006 CID Share Posted September 21, 2006 No amount of tweaking has ever done anything for my system, no matter what. I mainly need the static IP for work.. I just havn'tgotten around to changing my sig line here to reflect my static ip....
