joseph0829 Posted February 23, 2007 CID Share Posted February 23, 2007 elijahpaul, do we really need to change the TCP/IP settings when going to the canopy software? i tried opening the canopy software without changing the TCP/IP and submask addresses, it still works... whats the difference between the two?
overboost Posted February 23, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 23, 2007 joseph0829 you dont need to always change the tcp/ip settings if you need to open your canopy software. when the canopy software is open bookmark it so that whenever you need to access it, just open it thru your bookmark. elijahpaul is busy with his studies...hes not always online. blackhearts98 Posted February 24, 2007 CID Share Posted February 24, 2007 Guys need help here....im from philippines (Olongapo City) and use smart Bro to..i read the discussion you guys made regarding how to tweak the Canopy software, and i use the step-by-step made by elijahpaul lastnight and it realy works! BUT i have a problem, after i change the configuration of my Canopy I save the changes and reboot it and set the properties of my TCP/IP to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" then i see the result and i said to my self WOW it realy workz!.. when the second time i try to open the software of my Canocpy, i use the same procedure that elijahpaul make again i wonder why it wont open the software of Canopy..do you think the configuration i made is the reason why my Canopy software wont open...please guys, hope someone help me..last night I send a msgs. to elijahpaul but no reply until now...i hope he read this and give me some procedures with or without photos to fix it...tnx!! BTW i think my connection slowly back to WEAK mode again...
overboost Posted February 24, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 24, 2007 blackhearts98 to the thread!! it seems that the procedures to change your canopy settings worked. based on your post, you made the right procedures but there is no reason why it should not open again. go through the procedures again and if the canopy software opens, bookmark it so that you wont have to always go back to the steps in opening the canopy software. Pls. post your speed and use the testmy.net speed test. thanks!!

kaffee Posted February 25, 2007 CID Share Posted February 25, 2007 Having gone through threads 1-11, I am posting this now, a SmartBro subscriber since Dec06, from Fairview, Quezon City, PHI. My speedtest below should tell you I am green with envy at having to bear with an average of 204-240kbps (D/L) where most of those who have benefitted from tweaks have boosted theirs to as high as 400kbps. :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 240 Kbps about 0.24 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 29 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 250 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 31 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/02/24 - 10:40pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-ANVW0KCEP U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-NJ9SUBG8R User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/418.9.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/419.3 [!] I have tried elijhpaul's tweak page for Canopy. Unfortunately, I think the step-by-step, as well as other softwares like cFOsSpeed, are for PC (I am on a Mac laptop). May I request help for Mac settings please? I can't see my Canopy software anywhere (Yes, the antennae is a Motorola). Btw, I do have to say that one of the advantages of being on SmartBro is that the signal stayed on after the devastating Taiwan quake in January07 when most cabled/wired providers were totally down, save for a few moments of lag as a result of sites being accessed which were affected by the quake, and not because of the server being down at all. The only other time we lost signal was for a few hours in early Feb07 when the base station to which our antennae was pointing was down. However, SmartBro's customer service leaves much to be desired (it has become quote legendary). Thank you for TMN, overboost and for fellow Pinoys who started and maintained the thread. Isn't it nice to show the world that we have such service no matter how erratic? Cheers!

overboost Posted February 26, 2007 Author CID Share Posted February 26, 2007 kaffee Welcome to the forum/thread :welcome: kaffee, you what i recognized your username...yup your a fellow PhilMUG'er!!! small word ha!! I also use "overboost" as my username at PhilMUG. here's a solution to your mac problem (hope that this works): I'm using windows xp laptop inside my room and my kids have an iMac 350 with theirs. You are right the step-by-step procedures provided by elijahpaul is for windows only but there is a backdoor. First, connect a windows computer to your SmartBro connection (you need your username and password that was provided to you by SmartBro). Second, yup you now can tweak your canopy settings using the windows pc (follow elijahpaul's procedure). Third, after the tweak test your speed (of course use TMN speed test), if you get a download speed of 350 to 385kbps then your on the right track. I recommend that you test your speed by using the large file. Fourth, disconnect your pc then re-connect your Mac to the SmartBro line. Fifth, test your speed again using your Mac and you will get the same speed with the pc. I know because I tried it with my kids iMac and I'm getting the same speeds with the two computers. The Canopy Software (I think) settings/configuration are not saved in your computer but only thru SmartBro's network. Thanks!!

How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity) Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up: 1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. 2. Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now! joseph0829 Posted February 28, 2007 CID Share Posted February 28, 2007 elijahpau, how about using opendns.org on smart bro? does it optimize internet connection speed?
blackhearts98 Posted February 28, 2007 CID Share Posted February 28, 2007 no. you only need one end of the CAT 5 cable to have an RJ-11 plug. for more info and illustration, kindly check out my tutorial with pictures of my default plug. Override Plug Tutorial just want to ask if only the pins 4 and 6 will be shorted ryt? so the remaining pins 1,2,3,5 will be hanging free(not touching each other)..what if ill put a wire only for the two pins that shorted pins 4 and 6, then the rest pinss 1,2,3,5 will be blank, if you use a tester only pins 4 and 6 will have the continuity is that possible? is it the same effect with the canopy(will be resetted)..? if posible..("correct me if im wrong..") assuming that i resetted my canopy, the default settings will be back ryt? what default configuration should i put then? for exmaple the IP configuration, if the canopy will be resetted, the IP configuration that smart broken inputed there will be gone, in that case even if i reset my canopy my connection will totally out..so what should i do then..?
