starship_troopers Posted January 7, 2007 CID Share Posted January 7, 2007 i am looking to get this card right here but along with a harddrive and an amd athlon 64 2.4ghz processor will this power supply right here be enough? the requirements for the card are: Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amps.) Minimum 500 Watt for SLI mode system. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 28 Amps.) An available 6 pin PCI-E power connector (hard drive power dongle to PCI-E 6 pin adapter included with card). i have everything over that but am not sure if a 500 watt is powerfull enough to run thsi card and everything in my system. and i am not using SLI just this single card. thanks, starship
dlewis23 Posted January 7, 2007 CID Share Posted January 7, 2007 500 watts is more then enough if you have a 1/2 decent power supply. who makes your power supply?
starship_troopers Posted January 7, 2007 Author CID Share Posted January 7, 2007 HIPRO makes it. i've had a seperate power supply from them since 2000 and its still working great but im ordering a new one for a new computer. so it will work fine? thanks for the quick reply starship

disturbed Posted January 8, 2007 CID Share Posted January 8, 2007 there is no way a 30 dollar 500watt power supply can be good....it might work, but you might get frequent power fluctuations which will cause computer freeze ups
disturbed Posted January 8, 2007 CID Share Posted January 8, 2007 plus, going just by numbers, that power supply will berely provide enough current for that video card....assuming that you will not get full 20 amps, how close will you get to the required 18 amps ? ....maybe less ? ....i dont know

disturbed Posted January 8, 2007 CID Share Posted January 8, 2007 well..the video card requires 18amps and im worried that, since the power supplies max is 20 amps, it wont be able to provide whats needed
dlewis23 Posted January 8, 2007 CID Share Posted January 8, 2007 well..the video card requires 18amps and im worried that, since the power supplies max is 20 amps, it wont be able to provide whats needed thats 20 amps per cable its more then enough, aslong as he doesnt put other devices on the power cable that the video card is on. which you should never do anyways even with a $100 powersupply.
