lorne Posted February 14, 2004 CID Share Posted February 14, 2004 Ok heres the deal, my boss wants me to build him a computer. I told him I don't know much but he insisted so..... This comp has to stay under the $600.00 mark, and that is for the complete system. He also wants to go with the Barton 2500+ if possible. I found a good package deal at NCIX for this, it is Barton 2500+ with SOLTEK 75FRN2-L NFORCE2 for $221.54cdn. I would like to stick with what NCIX carries so the memory can't be crucial. I cannot seem to stay under $600, all the little stuff kills me. Can you guys help me come up with a complete system for under $600 based on the athlon 2500+ ? The only things it is gonna be used for is a little surfing, doing bills and some music. If you don't think it is possible to stay under $600 based on the 2500+ than it can be changed to something cheaper as long as it is one of the Athlons. Your Help Is Appreciated Oh yeah this price doesn't include monitor.
RTB Posted February 14, 2004 CID Share Posted February 14, 2004 Why an Athlon 2500+ if it's not even going to be used for moderately intensive stuff? Post your current list, so we (me?) can see what's really killing you
Swimmer Posted February 14, 2004 CID Share Posted February 14, 2004 WOW Under $600 with a 2500+??? I will give it go. Here is what I came up with from NCIX: 1.44 MB High Density Floppy Drive $10.80 KEYMOUSE PS/2 2 BUTTON MOUSE W/ SCROLL WHEEL 700DPI $6.99 GENERIC COMPACT PS/2 KEYBOARD $5.25 SONY CRX225E 52X/24X/52X E-IDE INT CD-RW W/ SW OEM $49.92 ABIT NF7-M SOCKETA NFORCE2 DUAL DDR AGP 5PCI ATA133 VIDEO SOUND LAN $144.52 AOPEN 17IN QF50A MID-TOWER CASE BLACK 300W W/ FRONT USB & SOUND $59.34 MAXTOR DIAMONDMAX PLUS 8 30GB 7200RPM 2MB ATA133 W/ FDB $76.16 AMD ATHLON XP 2200+ 256K 266FSB SOCKET A RETAIL BOX *3YR. MFR. WARRANTY* $110.01 IMPRESSION 17IN .27 1280X1024 L.R. OSD $132.24 GENERIC 256MB PC2700 DDR333 184PIN $65.79 TOTAL $661.02 Reasons for the downgrades: First there is no why you are going to be able to build a 2500+ system for under $600. I choose the new mobo because with the old one you would have to buy a sperate graphic card. This one has an intergrated MX440 which can play some games but it was also cheaper then buying the other board + a graphic card. Everything else is just self explanitory. Nothing real impressing. You still need speakers and an os.
CA3LE Posted February 14, 2004 CID Share Posted February 14, 2004 screw the floppy... just save that $10 and leave it off... who the hell needs that shit
lorne Posted February 14, 2004 Author CID Share Posted February 14, 2004 Swimmer you came pretty close, I just might use that system, Thanks. First I am going to see if i can get him to up the budget a bit. Why an Athlon 2500+ if it's not even going to be used for moderately intensive stuff? Swimmer Posted February 14, 2004 CID Share Posted February 14, 2004 Yeah but the floppy is kinda a staple of a computer. Is the shop networked with network storage?? That is a good price for what you are getting!! The only change I would make would be the case and maybe the monitor... Other then that it is a solid computer. Swimmer Posted February 15, 2004 CID Share Posted February 15, 2004 Umm not bad! $261.98 cnd! That is about 1/2 the budget so it is decent. Put some of the parts from the other computer and you are set! Revisied components: Barebones from tigerdirect.com $261.98 -PCChip motherboard with intergrated 64mb graphics -128mb pc2100 memory -300w ATX case -1800+ AMD Athlon -NIC & modem KEYMOUSE PS/2 2 BUTTON MOUSE W/ SCROLL WHEEL 700DPI $6.99 GENERIC COMPACT PS/2 KEYBOARD $5.25 SONY CRX225E 52X/24X/52X E-IDE INT CD-RW W/ SW OEM $49.92 MAXTOR DIAMONDMAX PLUS 8 30GB 7200RPM 2MB ATA133 W/ FDB $76.16 Windows XP Home OEM $118.00 IMPRESSION 17IN .27 1280X1024 L.R.
