tommie gorman Posted July 24, 2007 CID Share Posted July 24, 2007 I don't know about that but what I have been reading is the USB seems to have a faster upload. I would have to try the card I have alone without the router but unfortunately I have no laptop. I did ask at 3G about about putting in a PCI to PCMCIA adapter in for the card but was told they hadn't found a card to support it but maybe they just hadn't tried it. Using the connection manager gives you access to the PX500 but I don't know about other cards or modems. If anyone with a different modem could give some input maybe we could do a group test. .The network for ISP connection is in place and there must be something that controls the speed but whether it is in our EVDO modems or not I don't know. I think EVDO modems in the future may give us more speed but what you must remember it would need to able to handle this through each segment of the internet network. And thus when you drive to work in the morning rush the more cars out the slower traffic gets just as the internet, so where is everyone getting in such a hurry, True that. ONce in a while not waiting as long for a D/L would be interesting. But compared to dealing with Dway, this EVDO will always be a dream comparison wise. It rocks. granpa Posted July 24, 2007 CID Share Posted July 24, 2007 3G where I purchased my equipment recommended this site http://www.speedtest.net/ also Sprint has a test page http://powervision.sprint.com/mobilebroadband/speedtest/index.html We need to all use the same test site to really compare. It seems that there has been some problems with the test here (TMN).
tommie gorman Posted July 24, 2007 CID Share Posted July 24, 2007 My main concern with speedtest is they use several others to do their tests from. (I have no idea if this is true, just seems it might) So since Sprint suggested using Speakeasy Speedtest, and that being one of the ones speedtest used, I stuck to using it. Download Speed: 955 kbps (119.4 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 511 kbps (63.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Not bad for this time of day. powerspec88 Posted July 24, 2007 CID Share Posted July 24, 2007 My friend just got upgraded to Sprint Rev A. His speeds increased from 1Mbps/80Kbps to 1.2Mbps/180Kbps. Ping times went down from 200ish to 110ms. He lives about 25miles south of Kansas City, MO. I'll get a speed test if i go over there for our weekly lan. I know when i canceled my service i got 30 some odd dollars back from them. What suppriced me the most was they didnt give me any hassel in canceling, no questions or anything. Maybe they noticed i was on the 4000 hehe

justinlay Posted August 12, 2007 CID Share Posted August 12, 2007 Hey granpa could you post some pics of your setup?? Im thinking of geting rid of my wifi and going with that from verizon.
granpa Posted August 12, 2007 CID Share Posted August 12, 2007 The router and card combo, I just found a window where I get the best signal with my Sprint cell and then found a good location outside for the antenna and 10' of wire limits this. I ran all my wiring from the router with only one PC connected directly to the WRT54G3G-ST and wireless network turned off in the WRT54G3G-ST. I use another Linksys G located at another spot in the house for my wireless with DHCP turned off in that one. But speeds vary to traffic, these have been the best but even the worst seem to be much more pleasurable than Satellite.

tommie gorman Posted August 13, 2007 CID Share Posted August 13, 2007 Not sure how close to the tower I am. Not to many large hills here. But they did say I was in a good location when they sold it to me. I actually get better speeds when it rains. It raises my signal, and actually puts me in a better range of numbers. Kinda weird. Like I said, a bit higher is better than what I have.

tommie gorman Posted August 13, 2007 CID Share Posted August 13, 2007 Yeah, mine I think does that too. But it beats the heck out of sat still. Not as predictable as sat for problems. Guess it is just getting used to it.
