starship_troopers Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 welcome to the forum first off have you tried reading these http://www.testmy.net/t-2097 , https://testmy.net/forum/t-3924 edit/ also it could just be distance to the testing server. and also, have you tried tweaking with cablenut? tommie gorman Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 Also what are your advertised speeds? Is there anything running in the background? Ctrl + Alt + Delete will show you. And are you running through a router?
dlewis23 Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 what plan do you have?
yodaddi Posted May 28, 2007 Author CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 i didn't know that programs running in the background could affect the bandwidth speed. there are some programs running in the background. as of now, i'm running the basic dsl package because that's all that is offered where i'm living at. but it's cool, this week i'm moving out into another location where Time warner road runner is offered and i'm getting the premium package. i'm sure it will greatly increase. tommie gorman Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 So turn them off, and so that is the 1.5 package?
starship_troopers Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 So turn them off, and so that is the 1.5 package? yeah turn off the background apps. I'm not 100% on this but i think its the 768kbps download package, not the 1.5mbps.
coknuck Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 yodaddi, When you see the percentage of your host remember you are being lumped in with all the speed packages swbell.net offers.
Swimmer Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 ^ there is your answer.. The % stat is calculated based on provider not package.
yodaddi Posted May 28, 2007 Author CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 So turn them off, and so that is the 1.5 package? what's the 1.5 package? i'm not familiar with that.
coknuck Posted May 28, 2007 CID Share Posted May 28, 2007 What are you paying for.
starship_troopers Posted May 29, 2007 CID Share Posted May 29, 2007 what speeds are advertised for your download basically, and if you get close to that there is nothing you can do to get more of your average, because your average is (as i forgot but coknuck posted) all of that company not just your speed.
