ghost74 Posted August 6, 2008 CID Share Posted August 6, 2008 Ok, I had posted earlier that my connection speed is suppose to be 1.5mb through wildblue. I did my download test and here are the results. not that I am complaining, but can someone tell me why its shows a faster connection than what I am suppose to have? And also why my connection speed through my router keeps changing on me. :::.. ghost74 Posted August 7, 2008 Author CID Share Posted August 7, 2008 That's true. Can I ask why it is when it does the 6MB(6144KB) why it has me downloading around 3.5mbps to 4.0mbps?
mudmanc4 Posted August 7, 2008 CID Share Posted August 7, 2008 I can't answer that question exactly, ( I can ramble a bit ) lol, but what I do know is when you download smaller data chunks, your connection will " seem " to be downloading faster then it really is, plus docsis ( the flow of data packets in , and out ) has allot to do with it. Caps are where they set your throughput, you get " speed bursts " at the beginning sometimes until the flow regulates. Or it may appear as you are getting more then you really are. Ever notice on a large download in windows , you'll get an average d/l speed at the end ? It should be close to what the test was, plus or minus many variables ie: hops, ping times, distance , and network traffic. I'm sure that didn't answer much, but hell, someone here will surely have a better answer, and this may give you something to start with. dlewis23 Posted August 7, 2008 CID Share Posted August 7, 2008 The 6MB file is most likely cached by your provider. The 100mb file is to big for them to cache so they wont do it.
