megabytez Posted August 19, 2008 CID Share Posted August 19, 2008 I'm planning to buy a pc 667 1gig mem.. can i combine it with my old mem pc 533 512mb??
x_6985381 Posted August 19, 2008 CID Share Posted August 19, 2008 If you do, it'd most likely be sped down to a mix between the both. I'd recommend staying with your memory speed currently. Because mixing isn't always a plus for performance. All depends on what motherboard your using and the max RAM speed the motherboard can run, do you know how to find this out? megabytez Posted August 19, 2008 Author CID Share Posted August 19, 2008 my mobo supports DDR2/400/533/667/800.
x_6985381 Posted August 19, 2008 CID Share Posted August 19, 2008 If you going to make the switch to 667 your RAM speed will be sped down to accompany all the moduals. How much are you willing to spend on RAM, I'd check out Newegg.com if 800mhz if your max, try moving up to that. I've had great performance with WinTEC Industries 512 x 2 Pack found on newegg, and the best part for timings like 5-5-5-15 for under 30 bucks. I recommend you definitively look into that! mudmanc4 Posted August 19, 2008 CID Share Posted August 19, 2008 Did anyone read the reviews on this batch of memory ? I wouldn't get it just due to that, and the statement from the manufacturer themselves. No way.

Ram is backwards compatible, if you have 533 in the computer now, and add 667 ram, the 667 ram will get slowed down to 533, so it will work.
