Le_Murphant Posted November 7, 2008 CID Share Posted November 7, 2008 Anyone know if they are compatible in SLI? They have the same hardware in every respect, the only difference is that 9800 is compatible with triple SLI. Has anyone tried or heard of compatibility? AlucardHS Posted November 7, 2008 CID Share Posted November 7, 2008 They both have to be the same. If you want more info on that you can ask here: http://www.gpureview.com/forums/
dlewis23 Posted November 7, 2008 CID Share Posted November 7, 2008 You can only use Match cards in SLI. And its usually best to get the same manufacture and version of the card.
ghostmaster Posted November 7, 2008 CID Share Posted November 7, 2008 I think they have to have the same GPU chip, nut not necessarily the same manufacturer. But I agree, for compatibility's sake, make sure they are the same...
RTB Posted November 8, 2008 CID Share Posted November 8, 2008 9800GT is a rebranded 8800GT in any case. There seems to be a rare chance at getting a 55nm part, but I wouldn't bet on it. NVidia also was supposed to be working on allowing mixed cards in SLi. So it should work.

justinlay Posted November 9, 2008 CID Share Posted November 9, 2008 To my knowledge you can match a 9800gtx with a 9800gtx+
lunchticket Posted November 9, 2008 CID Share Posted November 9, 2008 i agree with most other replies it is NOT POSSIBLE they have to be same hardware and brand (such as asus, gigabyte etc.)
RTB Posted November 9, 2008 CID Share Posted November 9, 2008 NVidia fixed that quite some time ago (series 80 drivers if I remember correctly), cards of different brands could then be used together in SLI.
Blako Posted November 9, 2008 CID Share Posted November 9, 2008 http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=604719&mpage=1&key=9800gt򓨯 A 9800GT and 8800GT can be paired together for SLI if both are EVGA reference cards. The trick is that you would need to either flash the 8800GT with 9800GT BIOS or vice versa. This means that the warranty on the one you flash would become voided. RTB wins the prize. In 2005: NVidia Forceware 81.82 supports SLi using cards made by different manufacturers
RTB Posted November 9, 2008 CID Share Posted November 9, 2008 Oooh, a prize. What do I get?
biker9075 Posted November 10, 2008 CID Share Posted November 10, 2008 The cards don't have to be the same brand, or even the same model. I believe it has to be based on the same chip though. However, the card with the faster clock speed will be downclocked to the speed of the slower card. This applies to Nvidia, I am not sure if ATI is the same or not.
