jlangleyrn Posted October 12, 2009 CID Share Posted October 12, 2009 On verizon and decided to try tethering my new BB Tour using tetherberry, results seem awesome to me, I have a satellite in yard that I am currently using; Hughesnet Pro Plan and my numbers are not this good, atleast it seems they are not. I will try to post them using just the dish to make sure. Anyone else using similar setup please show me is my speeds are similar or not. ::::::::::.. testmy.net test results ..:::::::::: Download Connection is:: 859 Kbps about 0.86 Mbps (tested with 1024 kB) Download Speed is:: 105 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 618 Kbps about 0.6 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Upload Speed is:: 75 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2009/10/11 - 11:34pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-0GSBV9NDW U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-892TF6HY5 User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; GTB6; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; yie8) Now I have results using my dish, :::.. testmy.net test results ..::: Download Connection is:: 983 Kbps about 0.98 Mbps (tested with 1024 kB) Download Speed is:: 120 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 120 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 15 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2009/10/11 - 11:44pm D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-MH9VJOU1G U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-YR6WVG2FS User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; GTB6; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; yie8) [!]
tommie gorman Posted October 12, 2009 CID Share Posted October 12, 2009 That would still be faster than hughes. Since no satelite signal bounce.
jlangleyrn Posted October 12, 2009 Author CID Share Posted October 12, 2009 yep, seems alot faster to tether my phone. So far it has had steady speed that my satellite has never given me, and my dish speeds posted are the best I have had in a while(it is 0230 here so dish traffic is light). Think I will at best downgrade to (s)lowest package they have and use the phone for most of my things when I want speedier performance from my laptop, plus if I am using my laptop, odds are that my phone is right beside me. wknight40 Posted October 12, 2009 CID Share Posted October 12, 2009 Do you have true unlimited data on the BB or still limited to 5G a month?
jlangleyrn Posted October 12, 2009 Author CID Share Posted October 12, 2009 all of my paperwork states that it is an unlimited data plan, cant find any hidden fine print, etc stating otherwise and when I called VZW customer support and ask about data etc they stated that if my phone could do something, then it is OK and covered by my plan. I guess that time will tell.
tommie gorman Posted October 12, 2009 CID Share Posted October 12, 2009 I guess that time will tell. Thats the one. I have been often told on forums I can not have totally unlimited, but my bill has showed 60 megs per month and I have not had one bill over my original. So thats the only way to really know I feel. I the bill stays the same. I have sprint EVDO by the way on my desktop.
mudmanc4 Posted October 12, 2009 CID Share Posted October 12, 2009 Iv'e got an unlimited plan from Alltel, and believe me, if there was a cap, they would have shut me down , a loong time ago. Hell, I set an HTC diamond touch for a world phone, so when in Aruba there's no extra charges, and I proved it several times now, no cap, and no limits. But thats just my plan.
