CA3LE Posted April 10, 2004 CID Share Posted April 10, 2004 What kind of modem is it...do you have a router... what is your OS... what are your computer specs Have you had any problems with spyware? ~~ that can bog your shit too. I have COX here in Phoenix (work for them) this is what I get... you should get close... minimum 2Mbps ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 3845 Kbps about 3.8 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is: 469 KB/sec Auth Code: 2057676 (validate at http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 69 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2.18 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&align=&num=2057676&kbps=3845&gen=gen&a=5.71428571428571&b=1.71428571428571&c=1145.14285714286 - Damon
ecliptic Posted April 10, 2004 Author CID Share Posted April 10, 2004 sorry for not leaving specs, i have a linksys modem(model BEFCMU10)no router at the moment, and running windows ME. im not sure, what kind of Specs u are looking for? and i have no spyware, i run spybot search & destroy all the time, and it comes up with nothing
CA3LE Posted April 10, 2004 CID Share Posted April 10, 2004 That is the same modem I have (I highly reccomend it) ~~~ but windows ME is lame! ~~~ also are you hooking up through ethernet or USB ~~ try to switch it to the USB if you are on ethernet and vice verse ~~ this will eliminate trobleshooting the ethernet port or the USB port.......... if you are on ethernet and find you get better speeds on USB ~~~ buy a new ethernet card, but use USB temp. - Damon
ecliptic Posted April 10, 2004 Author CID Share Posted April 10, 2004 yeah i know windows ME sux, but could it really be hindering my connection that bad? cause im using the same computer as when i had cable before and the speeds are less :-/ when i get the chance i guess ill go blow 5 bucks for a usb cable and try it lol

Inquisitor Posted April 12, 2004 CID Share Posted April 12, 2004 What's the advertised speed you should be getting, microwave? Here, they promote an 'up to 2 mbps' service -- I get 1.4.
MICROWAVE Posted April 12, 2004 CID Share Posted April 12, 2004 My advertised speed is 3000/256 so as you can see Iam getting more than that although my upload is usually right on the money at 256......Iam very happy with my service from cox.... ecliptic Posted April 16, 2004 Author CID Share Posted April 16, 2004 well i went and chatted with a cox person on their support chat, and he let me know something WAS wrong with the connection in my area, and that the tech's were aware of it. But it was not known when it would be fixed, however, not 1 hour ago my internet kicked off, came back (X2) now my speed looks more like this ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 865 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is: 106 KB/sec Auth Code: 2012976 (validate at http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 15 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 9.66 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?ta=&top=&align=&num=2012976&kbps=865&gen=gen&a=9.14285714285714&b=1.71428571428571&c=1145.14285714286 still only what? 25% of what i should be getting? i guess a boost is a boost
MICROWAVE Posted April 16, 2004 CID Share Posted April 16, 2004 yeah but keep after it and I'm sure they will fix it correctly,I did service work for many years and sometimes it takes a bit but if the customer didn't let us no there was a problem we assumed everything was ok.......so bug them until its fixed and let us Know thanks Microwave
wmlarry Posted April 21, 2004 CID Share Posted April 21, 2004 ecliptic, I run Windows ME, and I'm not about to argue with these fine folks on here, but I love ME. Out of curiosity, have you checked your system resources to see what they are running after a fresh reboot? ME is a hog for system resources, and will slow your system to a crawl unless you keep start-up menu to a minimum. Right click on my computer, left click on properties, then performance tab. If system resources are below 50% after a fresh reboot, you might consider removing un-needed items from your start-up menu. See Here: http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Uncheck.htm Good luck,
CA3LE Posted April 22, 2004 CID Share Posted April 22, 2004 Well XP and NT don't display system resources the same as ME and 98/95 ... but my memory commit (system resources) usually runs at about 92% free ~~~ ~~ winXP is the shiznit! - Damon
ecliptic Posted April 22, 2004 Author CID Share Posted April 22, 2004 77% free, thats while quite a few things loading tho , but yeah, i dont know how that helps i really would like it if *gets on soapbox* <rant>COX WOULD GET OFF THIER ASS AND FIX THIS SHIT</rant> *steps off the soapbox* its better than dialup, but if im paying for a 3000/256 line, i should get a 3000/256 line(take for reasonable interference, distance from server, clog on server, ect.) maybe if i tell them to upgrade my line it will get better? lol i dont know...
