Pgoodwin1 Posted June 28, 2014 CID Share Posted June 28, 2014 Just wondering if the downstream levels were too high? I've seen them at over 6 dBmv. Been having erratic operation lately. Wondering if levels are high enough to cause distortion. When things were working better, they were down in the 4-4.5 range Also, I see Uncorrecables now and then. I don't know what they are, or the ramifications Or Correcteds for that matter
jimharle Posted June 28, 2014 CID Share Posted June 28, 2014 I have no idea what "normal" is for cable modems, but here are the details from mine (I'm not having any problems...at home that is) Model Name: SB6121 Vendor Name: Motorola Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.10-SCM00-NOSH Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12.18m3 Hardware Version: 5.0 Firmware Build Time: Oct 29 2012 18:07:13 Pgoodwin1 and CA3LE
Solution coknuck Posted June 29, 2014 Solution CID Share Posted June 29, 2014 What cable modem signal levels are considered good ? Downstream Power (-15dbmV to +15dbmV) Most modems are rated from -15dB to +15dB, however it's best to have it between +8dB and -8dB. Anything less or more than that and you may have quality issues. You can remove splitters on the line if you need to raise and clean up your signal level a bit. Upstream Power (37dbmV to 55dbmV) The lower this number is, the better. Above 55dB will most probably cause problems, over 57dB and you probably won't be able to connect. Signal/Noise Ratio (>30dB) SNR is best over 30, (the higher the better, might work well with as low as 25 at times). Anything less than 25 will cause dropped connections, packet loss, slow transfers, etc. Source: https://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?qid=78 Pgoodwin1 and CA3LE
Pgoodwin1 Posted June 29, 2014 Author CID Share Posted June 29, 2014 Thanks for the info. Certainly looks like my power levels and SNR are fine. CA3LE
