SpeedTweaker Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 does anyone know if their is a way to flash bios without using a floppy drive instead using a CD drive. my bios is messed up. when i turn on my computer i get an error message saying Hardware monitor failure. it ask to press F1 to continue and F2 to enter setup. and the time and date is wrong. when i disconnect my computer from the power outlet for a few seconds , it takes me to a advanced menu where the time and date is also wrong. motherboard--A7S-LE REV bios--AC PI BIOS Revision 1002LE 05/09/2001
bwt1953 Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 check and replace your battery before you attempt a bios flash
cholla Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 You might put inthe correct time& date see if it stays. If it doesn't then check your battery like btw1953 said. on the other if your cd is a cd burner® then you should be able to DL to it like a floppy & use it the same way. You may have to go into your bios & make the cd instead of the HD as your first start up device so it will do the flash from the cd.I have always used a floppy but I think that would work. were you doing something to your bios before you started getting the error message? organ_shifter Posted May 20, 2005 CID Share Posted May 20, 2005 Definitely sounds like a CMOS battery problem. I don't think that there is a half way point for your BIOS. Either it's working or it's not (no in between). You bios doesn't just become corrupt out the blue,
cak46 Posted May 21, 2005 CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 I agree with bwt: but if you want to test, do what cholla suggests and then shutdown, unplug, hit the power button, then plug back in and start'er up to see if your time stays or not. Sounds like a battery to me as well.

cholla Posted May 21, 2005 CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 Set your clock & see if it stays the battery might have not been making a good connection .In effect you cleaned the contacts by removing & checking it.

(CPU especially).
netmasta Posted May 21, 2005 CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 To me it sounds like the BIOS is having trouble monitoring the hardware setup for some reason. Just guessing. I'm guessing it doesnt happen often, seeing as I only found 3 and 5 matches for "Hardware monitor failure" on Yahoo! and Google.
SpeedTweaker Posted May 21, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 my bad i meant Hardware Monitor found an error big difference when searching goggle or yahoo
netmasta Posted May 21, 2005 CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 You should check all of the connections in your computer, something could be loose. Did you recently install or upgrade any hardware?
SpeedTweaker Posted May 21, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 i removed my 56k modem, installed a video card, and extra side fan. the video card works fine . all fans are working.no error message from modem
cak46 Posted May 21, 2005 CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 Is the new fan plugged into the motherboard directly or one of the 4 pin power supply jacks?
organ_shifter Posted May 21, 2005 CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 It's seems to be either the CMOS battery or mabey your power supply is having a hard time keeping everything juiced up. What is the wattage of your PS and does your video card receive extra juice from the power supply via an additional power connector?
SpeedTweaker Posted May 21, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 With the hardware monitor failure problem. Would microsoft have a problem recognizing that I removed windows xp due to hardware monitor failure problem when I try transferring my license to another computer? bwt1953 Posted May 21, 2005 CID Share Posted May 21, 2005 Replace your battery to eliminate that as a possible problem. The symptoms you list point to the battery first. Take it one step at a time. Batteries are cheap.
