Cobra Posted September 4, 2004 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 o and last thing, it wont let me use smarTest or dl the small file because it says: ERROR :: 337 :: Sorry but 105438 Kbps is too high. Our test cap is currently set at 30000 Kbps. This does not necessarily mean you have an awesome connection... this most likely means that... **Somehow the test is in your browser cache ** You clicked <back> and are now getting ERROR results TestMy.net has filters in place to weed out bad results. You should RE-TEST and try to get an accurate reading. If you get this often try to not click back.
Swimmer Posted September 4, 2004 CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 if that is a real speed test than that is one hell of a connection that you have there!! The upload is lack luster if you ask me.. I would expect at least 1mb with a 14mb download connection... Other than that looks good!
Shug7272 Posted September 4, 2004 CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 Is that even possible, wait till RTB sees this he is gonna be way pissed off.

ice Posted September 4, 2004 CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 Judging by your second result, I doubt the tests are right. There is no way you get 103mb/s from Cox.
Cobra Posted September 4, 2004 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 i know i was surprised too, hence y i posted this... this is the only place that has those type of results; everywhere else gives lower also, i tried each one a few times to make sure and came out about the same each time. ironically, when i download stuff, it goes nowhere near that fast- only about one mbps tops when downloading if im lucky and uploading is quicker than that... When you look at a download in progress, it will most likely be in MB/s or KB/s. Like when I say I download at 1.071MB/s, in mb/s that would be around 9mb/s, get it? CA3LE Posted September 4, 2004 CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 SnackySmores scores are true --- He came into the site a few days ago through one of my affiliates (candystore.tk) and tested at about 9Mbps -- his scores today were all consistantly 14-15Mbps -- none of his tests dropped under 14Mbps today and since there were more than 5 tests ran by him and the test sizes were about 2992KB --- all this leads me to understand that this guys got a really killer connection. And yes he is on Cox Communications... and no it isn't an employee line inside of Cox (like my office connection) it is a home connection. Enjoy the speed, hope it lasts for you...... dontcha wish your upload was like that too SnackySmores, I'm the owner & author btw LOGGING RULES! - Damon
Cobra Posted September 4, 2004 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 lol it wont last knowing my luck not that i can even use it though- my connection speed never goes above 1 megabyte when i download something... and i figured u were the owner considering someone said it in an earleir post i read in a different topic but wanted to make sure and is there a way i can check how many people come in through my site? cuz im thinking that if you guys have (cant make one im too untalented ) an 88x31 pic, i can just stick it on my homepage rather than in the links cuz i like this site- good design, friendly people, useful tests... EDIT: ohhhh see i didnt know they were case-sensitive... im usually smarter than this im pretty darn sure now that its MB/s not mb/s:) and see? im using edit im such a nerd lol

RTB Posted September 4, 2004 CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 RTB is pissed off and thats all really just pissed off. So I'm just trolling around. And SnackySmores.tk: You've uncapped your modem, or gave someone else a lot of money to do that for you. ADMIT IT! Anyway, it prolly a mess-up by a Cox employee, accidently uncapping your modem. And to get higher speeds when downloading, you'll problably have to tweak your RWIN. The problem is, you don't know your max. Here are my speeds: Advertised: 2560 Going from Holland to America... a mere 22 KB/s lost. I normally download at 300 KB/s from England and other servers nearby. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 2274 Kbps about 2.3 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is:: 278 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 41 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 3.68 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check.cgi?num=252525 Advertised: 384 :::.. And almost nothing later that day. So I'm pissed.

[/quote'] As I said, a Cox employee problably uncapped your modem. The other part was sarcasm with a touch of irony. Those disconnects... can you tell more about those? Your upload should be fine, just look at mine. That even rhymed. It's simple, you press the button on your keyboard which has Print Screen written on it. Then open up Paint, and paste. Save it, and send it to someone who can host, like CA3LE or me.
Cobra Posted September 4, 2004 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 i always wondered what that button did whats uncapping do and how come it doesnt affect my normal performance? and i dont know y, but the only time cox seems to disconnect is when im playing medal of honor allied assault spearhead at a certain server (the one i go to )... i dont think it matters cuz the server was shut down anyways... sigh... EDIT: o, and wheres the print scrn button save to? it wasnt in 'my pictures' 'my documents' or on my desktop...

RTB Posted September 4, 2004 CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 whats uncapping do and how come it doesnt affect my normal performance? Uncapping removes the cap from your modem. Mine is set at 2560 Kbps for example, your should've been at 4000, but other Cox uses get above that too. CA3LE should know more about this. and i dont know y, but the only time Cox seems to disconnect is when im playing medal of honor allied assault spearhead at a certain server (the one i go to )... i dont think it matters cuz the server was shut down anyways... sigh... That certain server problably kicked you off, since there's no real reason why you can't play online at all with such speeds. EDIT: o, and wheres the print scrn button save to? it wasnt in 'my pictures' 'my documents' or on my desktop... That's the trick: It doesn't. You have to open Paint, or some other image editing program, paste the screenshot there, and save it as a .jpg file.
Cobra Posted September 4, 2004 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 ohhhh thx and ty for offer but i like using tinypic.com- they are quick, reliable, and have quite short urls is capping a good thing? and i doubt i was kicked, because that wouldnt cause my connection to time out...
RTB Posted September 4, 2004 CID Share Posted September 4, 2004 is capping a good thing? Not for the customer. It is good for the ISP, since they can set the cap to anything, normally lower. Good ISPs (such as Cox) set it higher than the advertised speeds. Crappy server?
