Road Runner

Hey everyone, my first post here. I just got Road Runner this Tuesday and its the plan with a 5mb Cap BUT I am getting ripped from what the various test results I took show. Here is the one form here:::

Connection is:: 2524 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB)

Download Speed is:: 308 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1)

Test Time:: Fri Jul 8 23:59:51 CDT 2005

Bottom Line:: 45X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.32 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 65.14 % of your hosts average (rr.com)

Any hints on how to get it above even 4000 Kbps? The highest I have gone with speed tests is about 3500 Kbps and I have no idea what is wrong. I think it's the modem they gave me. It is a Toshiba PCX1100U. Any help would be appreciated and if you need more info than just ask. Thanks ahead of time.

Welcome, ppd10526....yeah that modem is a little older...call the local office in your area (the number should be on the bill/invoice) and ask if you can swap it out.  They will usually let you bring it in yourself to swap for a new one, you just need to ask.

You may bring your speed up a bit with a newer modem, but also be sure to read the stickies and follow all steps, and just read around in the forum.

Upload is not a problem but the Download speed still is. Maybe when I reformat and then run the tweaks again, it might be different. But they will be coming on the 14th to give me a new modem when they install Digital Phone so I'll post those results then.

Looks like you've got a firewall or router blocking that tracert.  That may also be interfering with your test results.  Try to shut down your FW or bypass your router (I know, it's a pain  :angry5:), retest and repost your download speed.  Looks like you're doing much better though!

That was with my Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005 firewall turned off. Do you want me to go take a ping test again? And also, my friend still gets a lil above this speed with the firewall on, so I am still wondering what is the problem but this speed is great.

EDIT::

This was a few minutes later when I turned Windows Firewall on::

Well, I still think there might be something wrong but I am not at home right now and also I have a few questions about hijack this so I will be asking them in the correct section of the forum if there is one. Thanks again for all the help and if I need anything else, I know where to ask  ;)
