Why is it that I score so well at dslr, and on a download from microsoft, but not that well from testmy.net? I also don't score about this fast from my own server in the same data center...

This is a screeny of a bunch of tests that I took just a minute ago.

This is a faster download that I did just a minute ago. (cleared out my cache first)

Why do I score so poorlly from testmy?

I know i said it before, the testfile size on testmy.net is too small for fat fiberoptic pipes like you have.

CA3LE give this guy the hidden 20 MB test and you will see :)

same thing goes for upload....

btw nice scores dude!

try my test in sweden, would be nice to see what speed you get overseas

use the 20 mb testfile

I used to get bumped up to the 2048K test or whatever the exact size was... I no longer do. I wonder if the routing to that data center is bad for here, because as you see, I even posted downloading a 64MB test file from my server in the same datacneter and scored poorly.

As for your test, VanBurnen, I didn't score so well :(

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 786 Kbps about 0.8 Mbps (tested with 20744 KB)

Download Speed is:: 96 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Bottom Line:: 14 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 10.67 second(s)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=5QN4YUH8E

Also, I should just state that this is actually a school connection. I will run some more tests when there are less people using the connection. I really wish that this was my home connection. The main issue that I am looking at is why I get so little bandwidth from that data center.

That's very wierd because when you first started coming here you were getting 11-13 Mbps (I just confirmed that by pulling yourold scores) --- it seems to me like you may have something wrong with your browser or port 80, one of the good thinks about TestMy.net is that it tests through the browser not through an applet like DSLR (which by the way I am not dogging on... they have a good test.. just different from the way I chose to do it).

I am going to PM you some FTP info (to a temp account on my server) and you can FTP up and FTP back a file and post the results --- then try the same file VIA http (I know you know where to put it to do that ;-))

I have just activated a 12MB test system wide, people will get routed to this test if they score higher than 10Mbps on the 2992KB test, I have also made the 2992KB test a choice on the main test page.

Yea sounds like a routing issue, cos you dont"get bumped up" to the bigger file.

Make a tracert to testmy.net

start-run and hit enter, type tracert testmy.net and hit enter again.

As for the speed from my server im almost sure you dosent use any tweaks :) To get 10 Mbps overseas eg ping 150 ms you need a RWIN of atleast 186880

on a server with 10 ms ping you only need a RWIN of 11680

I would have said the same thing if his issue was with FTP also, but he FTP'd into his box which is RIGHT next to mine and it was normal... downloaded via http and it's slowed ~~ sounds like a browser problem or something with port 80 /// possible browser problem may be spyware related or registry related because he used to get 11-12 Mbps here and it only dropped for him recently.

luwigie, you may also want to try TCPOptimizer which is on my front page, from speedguide.

Let us know your resolution to this issue.

And finally as every body leaves, I am able to get this from my server... Still don't know why I can't pull this much from testmy...

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 4106 Kbps about 4.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)

Download Speed is:: 501 KB/s

Bottom Line:: 73 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2.04 second(s)
