masterpat1000 Posted July 29, 2005 CID Share Posted July 29, 2005 i have many problems with my internet. so i will list them in hopes of someone helping me out. ok. problem one. in programs such as shareaza, it says that i am behind a firewall. but i turned off the microsoft firewall. btw, i have microsoft xp with service pack 2. i also have a Netgear FVS318 router. but i dont know what other firewall i could have. another problem is also with programs like shareaza. ares in particular. it just refuses to connect and download stuff. and my third problem is with online games. especially Final Fantasy XI. becasue with every online game, it will lose its connection after im on for a little while. so i will be playing for about 5 minutes, and it will tell me that i lost my connection. but also with FFXI, i just recently got it, so i have to update it. but while i am updating it, it will randomly lose its connection and the update will not finish. i dont know what to do about any of this. any and all help is greatly appreciated. thanks. dn0 Posted July 29, 2005 CID Share Posted July 29, 2005 Have you done any ping tests? Sounds like you may be loosing connectivity on occasion. From your Command Prompt, try typing "pathping google.com". This will take a while, but it will give some packet loss statistics over time. Paste the results back here. There are many tests to try, but we can start there. As for the firewall question, maybe your provider is blocking access.

dn0 Posted July 30, 2005 CID Share Posted July 30, 2005 I've seen this before, for some reason you're unable to run a pathping test. It should show the whole route, and compute the stats for each node for 300 seconds or longer. I am not sure why this is, does anyone else have any idea? Maybe just try a simple tracert to testmy.net ('tracert testmy.net' from command prompt).

FallowEarth Posted July 30, 2005 CID Share Posted July 30, 2005 HERE is a really good support page for your router, with links to troubleshooting documents from Netgear's support site. It seems that there are different versions of that router (FSV318v1, FSV318v2, FSV318v3). The link is for v1, I'm not sure how you would find out if you have a different version if it doesn't say on the diagnostic page. It looks like there's some stuff that pertains to your issue, esp in the troubleshooting doc. I'd also check out the bit about contacting Netgear support via email. It says you'll get a response "in about one business day." You'll probably find help there. I do believe that it is something in the router that is causing your problems.
