bigdawwg1 Posted December 27, 2006 CID Share Posted December 27, 2006 Thanks, Bird Fan. I just d/led SatSpeed2.3. I had tried it before but it was when it first came out. At that time, it didn't seem to work as well as just using DRTCP. But that was with my 4000 system. Form what I see, all I can use on SatSpeed is the MaxConnections setting for the 7000s. Unless theres something else I missed. This is my last speed test ... I appreciate your help. I'm new to the 7000s
tommie gorman Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 So was anybody here on a 6000? Or needed help with it? Just curious.
granpa Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 So was anybody here on a 6000? Or needed help with it? Just curious. I never really tried a 6000, helped my installer set a few up here locally so I could learn. Weren't those made by Pontiac tommie?
tommie gorman Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 I thought it was Toyota. I do get lost on the numbers being used for names. So I will reiterate. 6000 modem by hughes.

That could be, but I thought there was a Pontiac 6000. tommie do you ever think you'll use anything but sat for internet? I really have gotten used to mine, only used dsl when visiting but I don't have any other ties out except my power lines so I don't know if I would. tommie gorman Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 If DSL were to finish it to my house. Certainly. The kids live in a whole new world. And it is my job to be educated to my best, so I may teach them all I can. Old and new. And soon they will need internet on their comp uspstairs. So with what little I have down here. It will be welcomed. And cheaper. It is only .2 of a mile away. I checked it the other night. Now if were just me and the misses. Nah. I would be fine, just like you. granpa Posted January 17, 2007 CID Share Posted January 17, 2007 I would be fine, just like you. Too bad the bunch couldn't meet for coffee. I did read somewhere about a TMN picnic. I guess we'll have settle with coffee along side the computer.

resopalrabotnick Posted January 19, 2007 CID Share Posted January 19, 2007 hey tommie, .2 miles is close enough to have them hook it up there and then cable the way to your house yourself... or set up a wireless with a directional antenna... tommie gorman Posted January 20, 2007 CID Share Posted January 20, 2007 I have tried talking to everyone till I am blue in the face. I have asked all those questions. I have been from nice to hopping mad and everthing in between. My first thought was wireless. I even offered to nail it to the trees for them. They continue to say when they get damned good and ready. And not until. And it is 6.0. I even checked so many places my in mail was constantly full for a while hopping to get an independent contractor to hook it up.
resopalrabotnick Posted January 20, 2007 CID Share Posted January 20, 2007 well, talk to the guy that has the house closest to you and have him get it then hook up a directional wireless from there.
tommie gorman Posted January 20, 2007 CID Share Posted January 20, 2007 That I did not think of. But not everybody is honest. I Would probably end up with 500 kbps. speeds. And pay the whole bill. At least it would work during a storm then.
resopalrabotnick Posted January 20, 2007 CID Share Posted January 20, 2007 even if you end up with 500 kbps speeds some of the time the latency would be much better along with your upload and you would save the cost for the sat payment. bottom line would probably be cheaper. tommie gorman Posted January 20, 2007 CID Share Posted January 20, 2007 I think after thinking about your proposal, I will wait till they decide to drop it at my house. I am greedy and want it all to me. Thanks Reso.
fikester Posted January 20, 2007 CID Share Posted January 20, 2007 Its not likely to work out for the best, unless it would be a relative or very close friend anyway.... with all the angles someone might cause problems: porn, RIAA, (just to mention a few) very well could be more problem than its worth.
