Confused071 Posted August 10, 2005 CID Share Posted August 10, 2005 I have installed my DW6000 (goodbye DW4000). My speeds on the previous client computers have greatly improved, partially because of eliminating a much slower host computer and partially because of a networking issue. However, my DL speeds are hovering around 700kbs/sec and I have seen consistent speeds of around 1000kbs/sec from other forum posts. I also understand that DW controls the speeds at a max of 1000kbs/sec with the DW6000, which is not a problem and beats dial-up speeds I have installed and run the cablenut program and have also run the TCP tweak...any other suggestions to speed my DL's? Confused071 Posted August 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 11, 2005 Thank you for all of your help...wish it could have helped... but here are the readings after optimizing With cablenut Ver. 7 MTU 1500...and so on :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 663 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Download Speed is:: 81 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Wed Aug 10 21:41:11 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 12X faster than 56K 1MB download in 12.64 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 86.89 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-JITNZL2H7 as you can see still the same hehehehehe... but I am happy with the speed that I have now as compared to what I had before so that is what is important right? I would hope that DW does not have me capped at this rate but everyone would tend to believe so....whatever

Bird Fan Posted August 11, 2005 CID Share Posted August 11, 2005 Remember, since you're running on a shared connection, and you're not directly plugged in to the modem, your speeds will probably be a little bit slower.
Confused071 Posted August 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 11, 2005 My signal strength is around 84....and I am connected to my modem through a 100mb router that is connected to the modem ... not through a host computer...I would not classify that as a shared connection, but I don't know much about this stuff. is that considered a shared connection??
php Posted August 11, 2005 CID Share Posted August 11, 2005 Yes, you are sharing the connection with other computers (I'm assuming so anyway) via the router
Confused071 Posted August 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 11, 2005 my thought is then that even if the other CPUs are dormant that they are still consumming a certain amount of bandwith, is this correct?
Bird Fan Posted August 11, 2005 CID Share Posted August 11, 2005 That depends. Try putting the computers on stand by or turning them off, then test your speed. If it's no faster, then I'm getting no where. BTW, with a router, you'll still be slower than it would normally be... but only by about 10 kb/s.
