Elite.Pete Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 is that the only thing in ur area or wut? cuz with the speeds, latency and price im seeing i would say forget it. direcway is like broadband for people in the boonies with no other option, and yes it is a total rip off, but like i said it's the only option
jkandra Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 You have to buy if you want speed in the boonies. I did because thats all I can get for broadband. Downloads are good most of the times. It sure beats Dialup.
jkandra Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1222 Kbps about 1.2 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 149 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Mon Oct 3 15:19:47 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 22X faster than 56K 1MB download in 6.87 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 48.12 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9DLY56WNM This looks good today. I wish it would be this way all the time. There are days that I get speeds @ 1X better than dialup. Uploads sucks, but what do I upload any way? catamaran Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 Got Wildblue recently....speed down is regularly 200KBytes/s and speed up around 28KBytes/s. Down load burst speed has been as high as 375KBytes/s. For satellite service the speeds are pretty good. Latency is regularly around 600msec. These values are for the most expensive service package offered.

Xylem Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 Well, in my situation the best I could even get dialup to connect at was 31.2Kbps, 90% of the time I was running at 28.8k.
Bird Fan Posted October 4, 2005 CID Share Posted October 4, 2005 I had DirecWay using the old DW4000 2-way system. Download speeds usually ran about 400kBits/s, but upload speeds were HORRIBLE!! The usual upload speed was a miserable 22kBits/s or about the same as dialup. I suffered with it for 13 months, then dumped it. Have you ever tried to send out a 3MB MP3 to someone using dialup?? It takes forever! DirecWay slow upload speeds have the same limitation. 400 kb/s is pretty damn good....
catamaran Posted October 4, 2005 CID Share Posted October 4, 2005 400 kB/s is pretty damn good.... Read that as 400 kilobits per second or 50 kilobytes per second.
fattymcbluff Posted October 4, 2005 CID Share Posted October 4, 2005 I have subscribed to the fastest service, 1.5M down and 256K up with emergency dial-up. ha emergency dial-up
