DJVageli Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 Hello again I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop and I would like to know how to start it up on Safe Mode so I can do that deep scan for spyware, because when it starts up it gives me 2 options, F2 and F12 for system check, nothing that talks about safe mode
VanBuren Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 click on F8 when your pc boots up, that would give you startup options VanBuren

DJVageli Posted October 21, 2004 Author CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 I tried it and the only option it gives me is to choose what I want to start and the only thing there was Windows XP Home Edition ?
Swimmer Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 this is what dell says.. 1. Turn on the computer 2. Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key. 3. Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.
MICROWAVE Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 Yeah do it the way swimmer said, you have to catch it before it starts to load everything and then you got safe mode:) but why do you want to scan for scum-ware in safe mode? Where did you get that suggestion?? Microwave
unstable Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 I had this same problem earlier today. F8 wasn't doing the trick...so I held down shift (prior to XP splash screen)--immediate after you see the "Press F2 for setup" and the box posts. Swimmer Posted October 21, 2004 CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 i told him to do it.. if you cant get the spyware to remove after the first sweep.. it means that it might be loading in the memory when windows starts.. not everyone know how to edit what programs load so if you go into safe mode it only loads window programs that are nessary for windows to operate.. nothing else.. Which means that then the spy remove should pick it up and have a chance to remove it.. I found that this worked for some of the adware that I was getting on a friends computer.. All gone now.. lol
DJVageli Posted October 21, 2004 Author CID Share Posted October 21, 2004 Yup that worked, I got to Safe mode and all, and I did a scan with all 3 programs lol,Spysweeper,Spy Bot and AdAware. Now lets just hope it gets rid of my internet hijacker
