wirelesstexan Posted September 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 Thanks for the welcome. My advertised speed is 3 meg download and 1.5 meg upload. The wireless internet company also has a 6 meg service for more money. I guess this means I am getting everything that's promised. Here is the upload test: :::.. The wireless internet company also has a 6 meg service for more money. I guess this means I am getting everything that's promised. Here is the upload test: sorry but that doesnt make sense to have 2 download speeds. also no way you have 3 meg down with that speed cause that is like a 8 mb package and i doubt you get 2 mb over a 6 mb package. EX -- i get about 675 up and 5200 down and my package is 768 up and 6000 down so i think yours might be 1 mb up and 8 mb down around there. what kind of internet is it? dsl, cable, fiber optics or wireless Modified by Just-

wirelesstexan Posted September 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 I fixed my previous post. It now reads 3 meg download and 1.5 meg upload. Thanks for catching my error. I am using a wireless provider called Air Canopy.
dn0 Posted September 4, 2005 CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 I would not complain about any of that, except for maybe the upload, but 939 kbps is still alot better than average. I would be happy with your speeds. (mine are about half of your's on both DL and UL) btw, AOL has a wirless service? I am not very familiar with AOL's broadband services. wirelesstexan Posted September 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 I am not buying broadband through AOL. I have a dial up account with AOL. I just use their home page, browser software, and AOL radio. I buy my broadband service through a provider that is not affiliated with AOL. Their name is Air Canopy Wireless. Are you connecting through an AOL proxy? If so, why not cut out the middle man?
wirelesstexan Posted September 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 Yes I am connecting through AOL. I keep it because I get a very low rate for AOL and I like AOL radio. I sometimes use it from other locations when I am not able to use broadband.

If you travel alot, it would be an advantage to be able to dial in for free being an AOL member.

organ_shifter Posted September 4, 2005 CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 if you have a 3Mb package u would not be able to get 8MB speed test i am afraid this might be cached because of some AOL proxy No doubt about that. There is no way that a 3MB line will deliver an 8MB result unless it's cached. Something is wrong. You should create your own LAN or High Speed Internet (see pic). If you already have one, you should be able to connect to the internet without using AOL's software which would in turn give you correct results. wirelesstexan Posted September 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 The line is not limited to 3meg download. I am paying for 3meg. Sometimes I get 3meg. Sometimes I get more. Air Canopy also sells a plan for 6meg. They say that they can restrict the speed in their software at their office. I do not think that mine is restricted. just- Posted September 4, 2005 CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 Power User 3 Mb 1.5 Mb $59.95 Extreme User 6 Mb 3 Mb $99.95 so i guess u are in the 3Mb package i guess maybe you have a burstable connection they assure you a minimum of 3MB but it can be faster depending on the bandwidth they have available seems very decent for a wireless connection i notice this in their package website *Speeds posted are to be used as a guideline for comparison only. Bandwidth allocation is based on internal policies. Actual speeds may vary. what is ur speed test against this site http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Here is another test using Internet Explorer. I cleared my cookies and temporary internet files. That seems more accurate. It's not that you got over 3MB that made it look cached. It's that you posted 2MB over the highest plan they offer. If you can get anywhere from 3MB - 6MB, the last posted results fit your connection better. You may even get over 6MB sometimes (if that's how they run their service), but I highly doubt 8MB. The first test through AOL's software is far fetched. wirelesstexan Posted September 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 4, 2005 Air Canopy is the name of the wireless service that I use. They have a very reliable connection and very good service. I highly recommend them in the DFW area. Their competitor, Texas Air net is terrible.Texas Air Net was unreliable and had poor service. Air Canopy has a wireless radio transmitter on a water tower about 1.5 miles from my house. I have a small Motorola receiver on my roof pointed directly at the water tower.
