Niccko Posted September 26, 2005 CID Share Posted September 26, 2005 To take out the possibility of a virus, i reinstalled my OS to see if my speeds will get any better. so far im runing this speed and lower. :::.. Now things that my provider has done. Slapped a huge pole on my house and replaced the internet receiver. Checked the direction of the receiver. Put me on a high priority server so i get my internet before other people. (so they say) They've changed my channel-id 3 times, every time they change it my speed goes back to normal....somthing to ponder why. So im not sure what to do next since theres no traces of any viruses. retook test in the past 5 minutes.... :::.. FallowEarth Posted September 26, 2005 CID Share Posted September 26, 2005 Hey, Niccko. Looks like either a firewall or router blocking the traceroute/pings. Try disabling FW or bypassing router to see if that helps.

FallowEarth Posted September 26, 2005 CID Share Posted September 26, 2005 Definitely strange that it fluxuates so much. You can monitor the connections that are established on your PC.

Niccko Posted September 27, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 27, 2005 did the scan and nothing out of the ordinary. when i had that 120+ goin on i was running a bit torrent prog. that might ahve had all that crap up there. after the restart i had 30 running then after a bit it went down to 1-3. heres another question i have to go along with it. i goto http://www.tetonwireless.com/speed.html and my speeds read: Your current bandwidth reading is: 1.65 Mbps and right after or before that test i run testmy : :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 195 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Download Speed is:: 24 kB/s... I spent a good 50 min with my isp's level 3 tech support today. from what there telling me is theres a virus running through the server down in my area thats not allowing some customers there full provisioning speed. they say since they know what it is they will have it fixed with in the next few days. im hoping this holds some truth. the only way i think i can get my speed to be where it needs to be is to uncap my modem, i dont know the process i know it was mentioned and u can get in trouble. so i might stay far from that idea. its a waiting game for now i suppose. FallowEarth Posted September 27, 2005 CID Share Posted September 27, 2005 Yeah, I wouldn't touch your modem caps, you don't wanna deal with it if you get caught, it ain't worth it. I'd follow up with a call to tier 3 in a couple of days. Hope that all works out for you.
