Tibu Posted January 17, 2006 CID Share Posted January 17, 2006 hello. I am also having some SERIOUS issues with adelphia/onelinkpr. Mine are not exactly speed related, though I wish it were since I don't really care that much for DL speeds. What I do care about is latency and smoothness in online games. RIght I have a problem where the connection hangs or stalls for about 3-5 secs where the activity completely stops and then resumes. This happens about 3 times every minute. You can also notice it while browsing, where webpages sometimes take about 5 secs to respond at all then they load rapidly. This makes it impossible for me to play any of my games. I called tech suppor and they will send a techie tomorrow but I'm not sure if that will help at all as I'm not sure how I am going to demonstrate the problem to the tech guy. Anyways heres my latest line test: http://www.dslreports.com/quality/nil/1959550

smartellpr Posted January 17, 2006 CID Share Posted January 17, 2006 Have you guys tried pinging your modem from outside, like from your job? Find out your Adelphia IP address by browsing to www.dnsstuff.com and look at the top right part of the browser, it should say your ip. Then from your job or some friends house, ping that ip and see how fast it is, in Windows Goto Start Button and in Programs look for the Run command, type cmd and hit enter, this opens the Command Prompt, type ping and then type you IP, hit enter and the ping process begins. After three or four lines, look for where it says: Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 183ms, Maximum = 191ms, Average = 187ms Average it what you are looking for. Mine just no gave me 187, which for online gaming is a disaster, 90 ms is about good.
resopalrabotnick Posted January 18, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 18, 2006 like i said, my connection, pings and routes look good except for the evening peak hours. and that is a problem known to them, and they say they are working on it. so i will wait a while and see what happens. RaulJimenez Posted January 18, 2006 CID Share Posted January 18, 2006 Here is my download test at 12:41 AM on January 19th :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3034 Kbps about 3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 370 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (server1) Test Time:: Thu Jan 19 2006 00:37:32 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 54X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.77 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 38.35 % faster than the average for host (onelinkpr.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-WJKXD8EO0 As i've seen a lot of you guys, our problemis definitely packet loss related thats why your games are very slow, latency problems.resopalrabotnick, I hope what they said is true... because as soon as they fix those HOPS specially the miami one we are going to see a very good improvement overall. And Yes i agree with you, we get whats left of the bandwidth once it leaves PR. I hope
resopalrabotnick Posted January 18, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 18, 2006 Now they block p2p.. good. that should free up some bandwidth. as for the problem with evening speeds, i hope they get the linkup in miami with another provider. that all depends on how san juan cable is tied in with the adelphia network contract wise, but due to the fact that the net pak and the music service is ending at the same time the adelphia webmail is dead for us i think they are pretty much ontheir own, which should leave them open to go to a different backbone provider. nebula Posted January 19, 2006 CID Share Posted January 19, 2006 I was worried I was the only one. I've been having all sorts of problems going on a few weeks now. I'm having high latency, loss packets (gets me booted off chess servers) , dns problems , SLOW speeds and now I pretty much think they are analyzing my recieved packets and filtering my Bittorrent downloads, since a few days I pretty much can't download anything with Bittorrent. I called customer support and left a message to a supervisor to call me back , if this isn't fixed THIS week then adelphia/onelinkpr/san juan cable can kiss my ass. RaulJimenez Posted January 19, 2006 CID Share Posted January 19, 2006 I think we will be seeing more of this as they merge and move servers DNS , probably backbone etc... It really sucks I just hope we can get a good backbone once the hops go outside of PR instead of the crappy miami and shit we are getting, I can't even connecting to IRC sometimes ... they are analyzing p2p protocols for sure, this might help in bandwidth but they are trying a cheap band-aid fix instead of moving bandwidth as it should. Also I analyzed their downstream and upstream ratio of users , I see more than 200 people per upstream channel which is very bad... I called them and told them what to do and they are looking at it, I hope it works .

Yeah right, I've heard horror stories of tech support showing up after 2 months/not showing up at all/1200ms pings ALL the time and 90$ for 1mbps? Screw that, I'll wait till these guys get their stuff together.

rmoreno99 Posted January 19, 2006 CID Share Posted January 19, 2006 Adelphia (or Onelink after the Miami move) is definitely blocking P2P, particularly BitTorrent and their trackers. I called the tech support late last evening, after noticing for some time a severe slowdown in browsing speeds and overall performance. The tech support guy specifically told me that they implemented a way to block P2P, BitTorrent and other File Transfers (which may be the reason why some services don

resopalrabotnick Posted January 19, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 19, 2006 my ul dropped from 440 to 375 now. my dl is around 2 - 2.5 right now. blocking p2p is good. itunes shouldn't be affected, since that isn't p2p. and gaming should not be affected by the p2p blocking at all, the oppositre should be the case. i have however noticed that connections are inconsistent, which could be the problem with the gaming. if they are currently trying to get the routing in miami, then that could explain the gaming problem. san juan star today had a shoirt article on onelink. they want to offer hdtv for some channels and voip by prolly late in the year, they want to make sure that their net is ready for it. the way it looks now they have work to do...
