chefboyrd666 Posted October 17, 2005 CID Share Posted October 17, 2005 okay, half a year ago, i got cable 6mb, and for bout five months it ran flawlessly, i had my and my bros comp hooked to a netgear router. but starting last month the internet started acting fishy. i could only connect to the internet maybe every 2 hrs. so we upgraded the firmwire on the router, it was okay for two days, then it messed up again, now i can download through bitcomet (but cant really reach my potential), and to use p2p software, i need to hook to an ultrapeeper which can cut my downloads down too. the few times i can get on the internet (now) it works fine (8mbs), but i can't get on whenever i want, just wehn it works, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it takes tooooo loooooong to download stuff.HELP
lorne Posted October 17, 2005 CID Share Posted October 17, 2005 Run Ad-Aware and Spybot (make sure to update them after installing). Than scan for viruses. Either of these things can affect your internet and spyware especially can gobble up bandwidth.
DaKeith Posted October 17, 2005 CID Share Posted October 17, 2005 i know rhis will be a pain in the butt, maybe u should disconnect the router for a few days and see what happens. And about P2P networks, my cable ISP blocks all p2p programs, so there for my speeds suck. something to look into atleast anyway
netmasta Posted October 17, 2005 CID Share Posted October 17, 2005 Welcome to the site, chefboyrd666 When you can't connect, do you notice if your modem seems to be disconnecting from your ISP? If so you should check your modem's power levels.

lorne Posted October 17, 2005 CID Share Posted October 17, 2005 That might be fine for viruses and a little spyware. But those won't catch most of it. Really should try Ad-Aware and Spybot.
