ilyas Posted October 24, 2005 CID Share Posted October 24, 2005 this is not an optimization topic. there has to be a problem with my connection. download speed seems ok for 256 kb. but upload speed is extremely low. when i try to upload something or run an upload test, my modem just sends data so rarely that an error comes at the end of most of the processes. i mostly can't even send a 200 kB picture file. i called my provider (turk telecom) , but they say everything seems ok in their side. my friends around with the same connection type don't have my problem. i can surf the net, when low upload speed is ok, but when i try some ftp upload, it just becomes a nightmare to upload data. my system is brand new installed. and i have norton 2005 systemworks as the virus program. my modem is a corecess 3113 ethernet. :::.. That has to be a new record! Sorry, but I had to say something. As for getting your speed up to where it's supposed to be, I can't help. Call your provider again and have them come check it out I guess.
Skipper189 Posted October 24, 2005 CID Share Posted October 24, 2005 Im def. no expert but Ive heard the firewall with Norton can screw up your upload, sometime stopping them altogether.
netmasta Posted October 24, 2005 CID Share Posted October 24, 2005 Welcome to the site, ilyas Read the 2 topics in my sig below.
ilyas Posted October 25, 2005 Author CID Share Posted October 25, 2005 thanks for the welcome. but i read the first topic before i posted this. it says "if your upload is lower than 90% of the ISP ' s advertised speed, there might be a problem." i mostly take 10% of that speed. so there has to be another thing. and the second one is about viruses, i surely don't have any. as i've mentioned before, this is not like an optimization thread, some specific thing has to be wrong. i want to know if somebody else had this kind of a problem. wonder if there might be a problem in my modem, because in the upload process, the modem mostly doesn't talk with the host. but why a problem like decreasing the upload speed, while the download speed is just fine ?? DaKeith Posted October 26, 2005 CID Share Posted October 26, 2005 this is just me, but i would try to shut down norton and try again. I have seen norton cause nothing but problems sometimes.
demon2 Posted October 27, 2005 CID Share Posted October 27, 2005 try close all programs that use the connection and retest
ilyas Posted October 29, 2005 Author CID Share Posted October 29, 2005 yeah i tried that. but it doesn't change. norton may decrease the upload speed, but my one is not decreased you know. it's nearly 10 % of the advertised speed. i'm still workin on it this is just me, but i would try to shut down norton and try again. I have seen norton cause nothing but problems sometimes.

resopalrabotnick Posted October 29, 2005 CID Share Posted October 29, 2005 your dl isn't up to snuff either. have you checked all cables/connections? are you going directly into the modem or through a router/hub/switch?
ilyas Posted November 5, 2005 Author CID Share Posted November 5, 2005 your dl isn't up to snuff either. have you checked all cables/connections? are you going directly into the modem or through a router/hub/switch? my dl was always like this. it moves between 190 and 210. cables and connections have to be fine. there were no such problems before. and i'm going directly to modem. may that be because of my corecess 3113 modem. the speed goes up and down. i once saw 40 Kbps. but it's too unstable and normally between 5-15 Kbps. the provider says, the problem's caused from my side. but i never heard a modem problem like this. ilyas Posted November 7, 2005 Author CID Share Posted November 7, 2005 be aware!!! modems may be the problem, in this situation too. i tried a zoom x5 adsl modem some minutes ago, and all my upload problems just vanished. i didn't suspect from my previous modem, because everything else was allright. I think my modem had some poblems with the upload frequency. I want to thank you for all the efforts.
