disturbed Posted November 16, 2004 CID Share Posted November 16, 2004 Hello.....how reliable do you all think it would be to run a game server (for counter strike) 2-3 days a week (particularly over the weekend) on a cable connection - i have cox, 512up, 4down (but its way over its cap) so.....the server would be run on linux (what kinda specs should a decent server have!?), offering about 12 player spots.....so....what do you all think ? RTB Posted November 16, 2004 CID Share Posted November 16, 2004 You can use just about anything for a CS server, as the physics behind it aren't that complicated. But hosting for 12 with 512 Kbps is a bit too much. At maxium I suppose you can run an 8 player game, but it will still be a bit laggy. At 6 it would be stable. xs1 Posted November 16, 2004 CID Share Posted November 16, 2004 i have a 386 up and hosted a 16 man server pretty seemlessly.
lorne Posted November 16, 2004 CID Share Posted November 16, 2004 My lineage 2 server uses on avg. 1.2 KB/sec per player. So on 512 up i can have about35 players. Grab a little program called down/upload meter. Get a couple people in there and see how much they are using
