again fluctuating speed. anyone can help me on my problem

Recommended Posts

well im sorry I had to bring up another post again regarding my connection problems. I tried to bear with little drop in speed because i knew the country im living in ( singapore ) has bad network lines which i heard from some other forums but at times its really unbearing. Ok my connection provider is known as starhub.com

* Advertised Speed from provider is download speeds of up to 6.5Mbps (6,500Kbps) and upload speeds of up to 384Kbps.

* Im using Reaktek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC ( latest drivers 11/18/2005 )

* Im using cablenut and using vanburren 10Mbps cable settings.

at this time of my post. i did a download test and upload test. remarkably my uploads are only slightly affected by the speed problems as it remains near my range of usual upload speed but the download speed are disappointing

Not only doing a tracert to testmy.net I tried to do a tracert on my provider. starhub.com and also sites i usually access; download.com the result are as follow below. *

You have some high times on the first hop, to the modem.  That's gonna throw everything else out of whack.

The first thing I would try to resolve this is to force the duplex on your NIC.

In WINXP:

-device manager >> network adapters >> right-click NIC >> properties >> advanced tab

-depending on the drivers, there may be a number of headings here (Duplex, Duplex Mode, Media Type)

-choose 10Mbps or 10BaseTx for the speed

-choose Half Duplex for the duplex mode

-click ok, restart PC

After this is done, perform another traceroute and speedtest

If your using a cable modem, check your signal levels, and make sure you don't have it behind too many splitters(really should be 1st thing off the main splitter)...If you can, bypass any splitters and plug modem in directly..

Motorola for ex. you go here...http://192.168.100.1/

Plus if you have Digital Cable, you MUST have a digital spitter(2.4GHz)...

Bad splitters with cable can KILL your connection...Best way to rule this out is make sure your signal levels are not too low..(or just bypass it for testing purposes)
