  1. Well....ah yeah, it pretty much was a new market when he started.......that's how he got started. He bought DOS for $50,000 from some dunder head and then sold it to IBM as the base OS for their new "PC". Then he stole Windows from Steve Jobs and built his own version. This was the first version of a windows based PC OS. So, yes it was a new market.
  2. Well when it comes to OS's we're way too far down the PC path for anyone to simply take over the market by offering up a better OS for free. Take Linux for example, you can get a free distribution of it and it's a great OS, but you don't see them hacking away a huge portion of MS's market share. The marketing/timing thing I was referring to only works when an industry is in it's infancy, e.g,, PC's and the OS and VCR's and Betamax, etc. MS's stranglehold on that market will most likely continue unabated for the foreseeable future. Even after they come out with the next OS that needs to be updated every week to keep you from falling victim to hackers.
  3. Okay, I have to jump in on this one. Success has little to do with the best product. I know you didn't say it was the best. It mostly has to do with timing and marketing. Windows IS NOT nor was it EVER the best product. I remember when MS was giving Windows 3.0 away for free. Yes I'm that old. At that same time there was a MUCH better alternative on the market from IBM called OS2. You old guys in here probably remember that. OS2 is still, IMHO, a better OS then XP. Back then IBM was selling their OS for around $80, but because Windows was free they ended up losing that battle. As a result MS went on to dominate the OS market which in turn allowed them to dominate the PC market all together. If IBM had given their OS away for free, then we'd be having this discussion about the next generation of IBM's OS. Now that they do dominate the PC market they can charge whatever they want and we have to suck it up. Having said that, I think that Windows is probably the best OS on the market for the average user. There really aren't many realistic alternatives, unless of course you go the Mac route. I have to say that with the introduction of the Intel processor to Apple I'm seriously considering buying a Mac for my next computer, since now you can really run Windows and OSX on the same platform with no hiccups.
  4. What's more likely to happen is that they will stop updating those computers and send a sternly worded email to those individuals. Hey, I'm with you on the pirate thing. I don't do it and I don't encourage others to. The fact is, MS has a stranglehold on the general OS market and they charge too much for XP and will likely charge even more for the next OS. Now don't get me wrong, they have the right to charge whatever they want for their product. But just go into control panel in your computer and count the number of security updates that have been applied since you loaded XP on your system. I count about 40 plus. If I bought a car that had that many recalls I'd demand my money back under US Lemon laws. Oh sure, you can get Linux for free but how many average computer users have the skills to use Linux, espessialy a free distribution. As long as MS continues to charge ridiculously high prices for their substandard product people are going to feel justified in pirating it. They would be wrong, but they will do it any way.
  5. And what exactly what are they going to do when they find that a million people (or more) are running pirate copies : Are they going to start prosecution ala RIAA/MPAA :haha:
  6. What I found more interesting on this page was that Seagate is coming out with a 750GM drive. http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=1896
  7. Kennedy's AF1 was a 707. It wasn't until Bush Sr. that they started using 747's.
  8. With a little tweaking you could get that download speed up some. :::.. 9. If you're using IE then click on "Tools" in the overhead menu and go down to "Internet Options". Then select the "General" tab in the pop up and go down to "Temporary Internet Files". Click the "Delete Files" button here. That's it. If you're using Firefox then click on "Tools" in the overhead menu and go down to "Options". Then select the "Privacy" option in the pop up and click on the "Cache" tab. Then click on "Clear Cache Now".
  10. There are two 747's aka Airforce One. However, that is really a misleading term. Whichever plane the Pres is on is called Airforce One. The other is Airforce Two......unless the Pres is on it....then it's Airforce One. Does that make any sense? In any event, there is NO WAY IN HELL that any Pinhead idiot like this can get that close to Airforce One. It's the most closely guarded airplane in the world. I would just like to know how they did the fake?
  11. Actually I think that the USB adapters work better the the PCI cards. With the USB you can set the module up high or move around if necessary to get a better signal. The throughput is just as good as a card.
  12. Try this program, it's called Sandra. This is the free version but it still has loads of benchmark tests. http://www.sisoftware.net/?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_3264&langx=en&a=
  13. hid, you're on the right track. That router and wireless adapter will work just fine....as long as you have a USB port available on the computer that will be wireless. The USB adapter is the easiest route to go. You can also get a PCI card adapter but that requires you to crack open your PC and install the card internally. USB is the easiest way to go.
  14. Cholla I just figured you out. I feel like an idiot for not seeing this before. You're an isolationist. Let's build a wall around the US, starting with the Mexico side and seal ourselves off from the rest of the world. Someone get Walmart on the phone and tell them to shut down their operations in China we're resigning from the rest of the world. Seriously, I'm not that far from being an isolationist. I used to hate Pat Buchanan but allot of the things he has said over the years are starting to come to pass. And, yes we do have a base in South Korea and Japan as well.
  15. If you read the 9/11 commission report you'll find that the 4 under Clinton where the most significant. Had any of them been acted on 9/11 probably would not have happened. The most significant of the 4 under Clinton was a joint CIA/Afghan Tribal plan that involved the capture of bin Laden by Tribals under the guidance of US Special Forces. This had been in the planning for months and was halted on the eve of execution because the administration thought that "The risk of civilian casualties was too high". A report that I read about this claimed that a spy satellite image showed playground equipment in the camp where bin Laden was staying and they (the Clinton administration) where concerned about how it would look if any children got caught up in the raid. Another of the Clinton failings occurred when the administration had verifiable intelligence that bin Laden was on a hunting trip in Afghanistan. They literally had him in the gun sights of an unmanned Predator packing a Hellfire missile. That one was called off because one of bin Laden's hunting buddies was a Prince from the UAE. All of the missed opportunities after these two are pretty much insignificant. However, I will agree that Bush has certainly missed opportunities as well. The terrorist's where largely ignored by Clinton and Bush until 9/11 happened. At least Bush is dogging them now.
  16. It's not 20/20 hind sight. bin Laden was directly linked to the Embassy bombings in Africa and the USS Coal. These all occured within the timeline that Clinton would have been considering. Clinton had the evidence and he had the intelligence. He knew how dangerous bin Laden was yet he did nothing. Hind sight has nothing to do with it.
  17. If my previous story link is not credible enough for you then here is great story from the Washington Post that outlines 10 opportunities that Clinton had to take down bin Laden. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A127-2004Jul20.html
  18. Chola, if anyone in this country is guilty of being a murderer because of action (or inaction) over 9/11 it's Bill Clinton. He knew of the threat of Bin Laden back in the early 90's and did nothing about it. We had the man and his higher ups in our gun sights (LITERALLY) at least 3 times and Clinton didn't pull the trigger because he was afraid of what the rest of the world would thing. He chose to play politics instead of taking down the man that would ultimately plan the attacks of 9/11. You should read the following story on the missed opportunities to take down bin Laden. Read this and then tell me who was more to blame for 9/11, Clinton or Bush. http://www.infowars.com/saved%20pages/Prior_Knowledge/Clinton_let_bin_laden.htm
  19. I disagree with your first point. The Middle East has been a bubbling cauldrin of trouble for nearly a thousand years. It is only since the world has started to become more globalized that it's starting to affect everyone. Hey, as long as the Arabs and the Jews are blowing each other up I got no problems. It's when their bullshit starts to spill out onto the rest of us that start getting hot.
  20. I'm all in favor of swapping ideas but when someone starts spouting crap about the President of the United States was involved in 9/11 I have to call BULLSHIT on it. I'm not even a far rightwinger, I'm a monderate who voted for Clinton in his first bid for the Presidency. My views of the world changed completely on 9/11. I'm not a know-it-all but I know that views like Chola's are garbage.
  21. The only ones that were forced, were the kids who didn't know better. The adults drank freely and knowingly. If you actually believe that Bush had anything to do with 9/11 then you are a Kool Aid drinker of the FIRST ORDER! Insult intended. To believe that any US President is truly that Evil goes beyond the pale and makes you look like an absolute FOOL. You may not like Bush as I did not like Clinton. But I always believed that Clinton had the best interest of the country in mind. Though I completely disagreed with how the chose to govern. I absolutely believe that Bush has the best interest of the Country in mind. Actually it was for the USA as well as the UN to decide, which they did under resolution 1441 which gave the US and UN the express authority to use military action against Iraq for non compliance. Saddam failed in just about every way to comply with this resolution and the UN did nothing about it. So, as usual, it fell to the US to act. Okay, first the rest of the World has spent the last 30 years turning a blind eye to the Middle East. Which is exactly what led to 9/11. Jesus I believe it's going to take another 9/11 for people like you to get it through their thick skulls that we live in a different time. The jihadists want you DEAD! They don't care what your party affiliation is or whether or not you like or hate G.W. You're an American and they want you dead. But you don't understand that. People like you seem to have a vested interest in seeing the US fail in Iraq. What you don't understand is that the consequences of failure are long lasting and dire. Radical Islam has a stated goal of World domination by 2050! Unless you happen to be Muslim then your head will roll if that happens. Christ are you serious???!! This is EXACTLY what has led to 9/11! Break out the Kool Aid!
  22. Right you are but the "I hate Bush" crowd don't care about that. Their too busy listening intently to the likes of Alec Baldwin, Al Franken, and Sean Penn who are obviously much better informed and far more intelligent then Bush. BTW, if Bush is so stupid, how did he manage to graduate from Yale University with a higher GPA then John Kerry? Guess he didn't have to be as smart as Alec Birdbrain. He just needed to be smarter then John Kerry to get re-elected!
  23. The Kool Aid drinking tag refers to the Jim Jones cult back in the 1970's. The entire cult group committed mass suicide by drinking cyanide laced Kool Aid. They did this because they blindly followed their radical leader. In this context it refers to anyone who blindly follows radical ideas and conspiracy theories without truly seeking (or caring about) the real facts. The fact is most of you "Kool Aid" drinkers hate Bush and you don't really care what the real facts are. The fact is you either have a pre-911 view of the world or you have post-911 view of the world. I choose the latter. Comparisons of Bush to Hitler make me laugh. What about Saddam Husein as Hitler?? Does that guy just get a pass in all of this? Have you been following his trial? There have been some major things uncovered from that. Like the fact that his own Generals under direct examination claimed that they believed that there was a large stock pile of WMD's that they would be able to use against the impending US invasion! His OWN GUYS THOUGHT he had WMD's! In the trial they expressed great disappointment when they found out he had gotten rid of them. Given that his people thought they existed it seems pretty reasonable to assume that the best intelligence from the US, France, Germany, Russia, and GB would agree! But NOOOOOO!! Bush lied! Kool Aid drinkers unite!!
  24. YES the Government WAS INVOLVED in 9/11 and they also conspired to kill Kennedy in 1963....there WAS a second gunman ....oh yeah, and men never REALLY landed on the moon, that was all staged in the Arizona desert!!! :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: You guys are a bunch of Kool Aid drinking PINHEADS!!
  25. The max download I've ever achieved is about 1900kB/s. I just tested again with the main testmy download test and got this. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 17418 Kbps about 17.42 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 2126 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/04/02 - 5:25pm Bottom Line:: 304X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 0.48 sec Tested from a 12160 kB file and took 5.719 seconds to complete Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1 Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 244.23 % faster than the average for host (verizon.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-T2URDLG38 I am very close to the testmy server in Dallas and it's possible that I'm getting this but the 25MBps tests that I got were not right.
