  1. D-Link just came out with 2 Gaming routers. Both have 4 Gigabit E. ports. One has wireless G as well. http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=371
  2. I also tried that Mondo server and it said that my upload was faster then my download and I'm on 15/2 Fios. 860Kbps down and 1200Kbps up. I would conclude that my original statment stands. This is a CRAP bandwidth test. No Offense
  3. Did you at least try the other servers listed? Ps. I didn't mean to offend
  4. You're using a crap server to do your testing on. Try one of the following servers. http://jlab4.jlab.org:7123/ http://server1.testmy.net/d_load.php http://miranda.ctd.anl.gov:7123/

  7. Hey VanBuren, I used the link to that Web100 server in Geneva and got some pretty respectable number from Texas TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.3.3a click START to begin Checking for Middleboxes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Done running 10s outbound test (client to server) . . . . . 2.07Mb/s running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 13.57Mb/s The slowest link in the end-to-end path is a 10 Mbps Ethernet subnet Not a bad download for half way around the world.
  8. Well that would be different then Perhaps you've already posted this, but what are the details of that connection? I mean who is the provider and where is it? 100/100 for $80 seems unbelievable, not that I don't believe you. I'd just like to know who offers that kind of connection at that price.
  9. VanBuren, your original post in this thread stated that you were paying $40 for about a 5Mb connection. So how does that come out to .80 per? Did you change your package?
  10. Same here in North Texas. After looking at all these posts I'd say that we have the best value of all. We're paying about $3 per Mb of download. Not bad! :::.. 12. Yeah the Cable companies have been saturating the airwaves with anti-SBC/Verizon commercials. It's about time they got a taste of their own medicine!
  13. Well RATS!! It was nice while it lasted Oh really, did I actually think I could tell the difference between 16 Mbps and 15.4 Mbps :::.. 15. If I had to guess I'd say that Verizon has a cap of some sort on the news server. However, that's just a guess. I know that I got blazing downloads when I was with @home on a 7MB connection, much faster then I'm getting now. However, on Comcast with a 6MB connection my newsgroup was significantly slower then it was with @home. Comcast definitely had a cap on speed and total download. I'm going to give a call to Verizon and see if I can get to the bottom of this.
  16. okay, well try the cablenut and tweaks listed above and see what happens.
  17. I use torrent and had the same problem. The problem, for me, was on the upload side. When I had my torrent set for full upload at 2MB I got next to nothing on the download side. I reset my torrent upload speed to a reasonable number like 80kb and that fixed the problem.
  18. I have fios and have NEVER used the router that they gave me. I have my own d-link DI-524 wireless router and it has the latest firmware update and I get the full speed out of it. :::.. 19. Yes, I have the same problem. What client software are you using to download with? I was using outlook express but switched to a free program called Grabit, you can find it at; http://www.download.com/3000-2164-5462527.html?legacy=cnet This is a great program because it allows you to do multiple downloads simultaneously. You can pull down up to 8 articles at the same time and it groups all the pieces together. Meaning, if there are 100 parts to a video download, for example, in Grabit you will see the article as one download item. By connecting and downloading 8 items at time you get a much faster overall download.
  20. These are speeds on a wireless connection? I would suggest plugging in just to see what you get. I have two computers that are wired to my router and get the full 15/2. However, from my wireless laptop I only get 13/1.5 most of the time. The distance that you are from the router will have a big affect on this too. Also, what firewall (if any) and anti-virus software do you use? There have been several reports that mcafee is causing slow downs. Lastly, are you using a linksys wireless router? There have also been reports that there are problems with these as well. For the upload I would recommend downloading Cablenuts (free) at; http://www.cablenut.com/ You should use the following settings. https://testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=6746.msg64612#msg64612 That should help your upload.
  21. Hey HaloBox! I used your Cablenut settings and improved my upload by about 400kb. I was consistantly getting 1.7 to 1.8 MB on the upload. After using your settings that number jumped to 2.1MB! No affect on the download though, I'm still getting 15.5.
  22. Have you tried turning off mcafee and testing? I've seen several posts here about slow downs caused by mcafee. I use PC-Cillin and have no problems. I was, however, only getting 1.7MB up stream until I downloaded and used Cablenuts. If you download this (free) I'll give you the settings that I used. Perhaps that would help you on the upside, though probably no that much.
  23. I don't work for Verizon so this is just my opinion. From what I've been reading Verizon is putting all (most) of their money into building out their fiber optics network. I seriously doubt that they are going to put any more money into expanding dsl coverage when they know that eventually they want fiber everywhere. For your sake I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.
