Got news for you terraslayer, your result is cached and false. The fastest speed Roadrunner offers is 15 Mbps down and that is in tampa bay, I know because I have that package, you're on the 5000/384 package. next time you test clear your cache, don't use any web accellerator software and don't hit the back button. Here's the fastest legit speed you can get with roadrunner:

Concidering the Athlon 64 X2 4800+ is the best processor money can buy I think I did.... I just went with the cheapest retailer's prices.

I find this thread interesting since the actual act of file sharing, no matter what the content, is not illegal. There has never been a case in which a person has been criminally charged for using peer to peer software in the United States. Yes people have been sued civilly by the RIAA for basically infringing on their rights to copyright. However that doesn't make it illegal, being illegal would make it a jailable offense.

You won't have to change any of those settings, however I do reccommend you use those same settings on every computer in your network.

I get about 14300-14600 from a 15000 kbit (15 mbit) download but the 400- 700 kbps loss is just due to overhead. I've got the 15/2 package from Roadrunner Brighthouse Tampa Bay.

What you should really be concerned with is that very first hop. that is the hop between your computer, or router and your modem. and it's timing out. that is not a good sign.

I'm not sure how to help you Blunted. I've never had a problem with my router slowing my connection that I can tell. And that's with 3 other computers including a webserver serving a website. While running the server has affected the upload at times it has had little effect on my download speed. However the router itself has shown no difference. My router is a linksys WRT54G . running wired to a gigabit switch connected to all 4 computers.

i wish my isp capped me, they just send me a bill at the end of the month charging me for every gig that i went over
I'm Glad I have an unlimited account then. Paying upwards of $100 a month for internet service should be charge enough.

sounds like you used the wrong setttings in cablenut. this is common mistake most people try an RWIN that is too large and actually end up slowing their connection down by trying to make it recieve too much data at a time. Since you had a decent amount of DL speed before Let's try this file and see if it helps any.

it could be faster however there is a bad router in your traceroute that is probably slowing your connection to testmy. try running a speedtest here http://ciseweb100.cise-nsf.gov:7123/ and post your results. also try a traceroute to the same address and post it.

All home connections are, and FIOS for that speed down here is $50, and the $100 is for 30 MB/s down and 5MB/s up, what do you have?
True but FIOS won't let you host servers use p2p etc. . and obviously nobody has heard of RoadRunner Business Class, Dedicated fiber lines for running your own web servers I guess.

Umm your cable connection isnt sh*t compared to a t1. lol
Try hosting on that and see if you dont get capped .
It is a shared connection with alot of people and a T1 is shared with no one besides yourself.
LOL Let's see T1=1.5 Mbps up and down ... My connection 15Mbps Down/ 2Mbps Up. do the math.. which is better? And I can't be capped there's a reason I pay $100 a month just for my internet. and the last time I heard Fiber optic lines eliminated the "shared cable" problem. I'm on an all fiber connection.

Did you have tech support check which provision file your modem currently has? also if you have any other computers, what speeds are they getting?

your main problem is a huge latency problem. Your first hop should be no more that 3 to 5 ms. it's actually timing out. that shouldn't happen. try checking the level of your modem. also call your provider and have them check your connection from their end. your problem is a hardware issue.

question, did then techs have you powercycle your modem while you were on the phone with them?

then it's a hardware problem that Roadrunner tech support will probably fix for you even if they have to send a repairman out to your house. Would like to see your results after the fix the issue though.

Cruxdagger, Also make sure you have the most recent VIA hyperion Motherboard drivers. They work hand in hand with your NIC drivers. If all else fails buy a cheap $10 0r $15 PCI NIC card and disable your onboard NIC in the BIOS. I think that's what's causing your problem, as your roomates are connectiing a full speed. and your severe problems with the tracert.

Sorry to interfere but here is a file specifically tuned to your connection speeds at a latency of 100 ms. if this doesn't improve your upload then they quoted you the wrong speed.

that's because there's probably a hard limit set in your modem right now. were you getting speeds near 10 mbps (1250 kB/s) until recently then suddenly it went slower? only way to confirm this is to call OOL and have thenm check from their end. they'll tell you if you're capped and maybe read you the riot act about downloading too much. One reason I love my connection from RR Tampa Bay
15/2 and no limits on download or upload.

KingKnight I have one question before this goes too much further.
Do you do a lot of downloading? in the 2 to 5 gigabyte per month range? if so the reason for your slow speed may be fairly simple. OOL despite it's high speed capability sets a Limit to how much you can download and/or upload per month. if that limit is reached they severely cap the connection. your connection dropping from 10 mbps to 2 mbps suddenly is a symptom of this. IF that isn't the case try this file: It's the very same one I use to support my 15/2 Roadrunner connection.

OK try removing the router and connecting computer directly to modem. then run both a speedtest and traceroute post both here.

No actually he didn't do it intentionally, he has a motherboard that doesn't allow the clock to be set manually and for some reason after a cmos reset it defaulted to a 100 mhz bus speed instead of 133 and he can't find a way to set it to 133 with the crippled bios.
