  1. OK let's do some troubleshooting.

    1. Are you using a router?

    2. If yes, are you connected wired or wireless? Are there any other computers connected?

    3. If No, are you connected to modem via ethernet or USB?

    4. Are you using a proxy service?

    BTW you are having a serious problem with ping times here's what a normal ping to testmy looks like:

    Yep there above is the reason you're so slow. now to fix it download Cablenut. then open this file in the adjuster.

  3. Here's mine

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 53126 Kbps about 53.1 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 6485 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

    Test Time:: Fri Dec 30 14:15:45 EST 2005

    Bottom Line:: 949X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.16 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 1692.98 % faster than the average for host (rogers.com)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-DJFEXOZLW

    Why the heck do people insist on posting cached results and messing up the averages for their ISP's????

  4. look what i've got:

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 42496 Kbps about 42.5 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 5188 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

    Test Time:: Mon Jan 02 2006 02:44:45 GMT+0100

    Bottom Line:: 759X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.2 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 1434.15 % faster than the average for host (telia.com)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-QPMA7R8BS

    that result is cached try posting a real one.

  5. Hold on. I think I may have figured out part of your problem, and it is something no amount of tweaking can fix. In your first post you stated that you used bittorrent to download. Now some ISP's have a limit as to how much you are allowed to download per month. if you reach this limit they cap your modem at a slower speed. I don't know your location so I can't look up the details of your SBC Yahoo DSL provider but i'm betting you were capped for downloading too much.

  6. OK dumb question are you connected to your modem by ethernet cable or USB?  The way it's acting I'd almost think there is a 384/256 cap set on your connection. you might want to call your provider and have them check you modem's provisioning and  make sure it's set to what level you pay for.

  7. well you should disable the wireless capability of the router and hook all computers wired to the router, also in the NIC settings set it to Auto. As for turning off the wireless, in a browser type the address 192.168.1.1 and login to your router (default password is "admin" BTW), choose wireless and then in th dropdown box for "wireless mode" choose "disabled" then save settings and close the browser, wireless is now disabled.

  8. There's no such choice for DirecWay files... We either have a choice of 1460 MTU or 1500 and then our package type.

    ok but there is a slight problem you see 1460 and 1500 are exactly the same number. 1460=1500 - 40  40 is the size of the packet header. 1460 is the MSS of the MTU 1500.

  9. Find the file that most closely matches your connection speed.. which for the DW6000 is 500/120 I think. or try the one I linked to earlier as it's tuned for that speed and the unique latency problems satelite internet has.

  10. Here's what mine ended up looking like.

    Does that help any?

    Yikes,

    That is not good, but maybe it's because of Dway's proxying service. I did find out though that the dway6000 is a 500/120 kbps service. now based on your current latency Let's try this file:

  11. cruxdagger,

    that's because you have a serious problem with your connection. In No way shape or form should hop 1 during a tracert time out as it's the hop from your computer to your modem. If it does to have a very serious hardware issue. I'm amazed you were even able to get to this website with a tracert that bad. Are you sure you have the VIA chipset drivers installed for your onboard NIC? if you aren't sure you can get them at http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VT6107_VT8231_VT8233_VT8235_VT8237v41FVIA.zip

    Try that first then do another tracert please and tests please.

  12. This one has me confused. I tested the cablenut file I posted with my own connection and it will even support up to a 15 mbps/2 mb connection, at just over 14300 kbps. So there is definitely a hardwarde problem. When was the last time you reset your modem? if it's been a while you should do so and try testing again.

  13. OK this has me confused. you should be getting a steady 1500 kbps with the settings I gave. please answer these.

    1: are you using a router?

    2: if yes are you connected wired or wireless?

    3. were you using and p2p apps, bittorrent etc during testing?

    4: how far are you from your CO?".

  14. So you were paying for a 15mb plan.. and were getting 5mb... how long did you let that persist?  :shock:

    I didn't. I tweaked the connection the second I had the upgrade to 15 Mbps done, I had actually reset everything to defaults on purpose to demonstrate the difference tweaking with cablenut could do. then back to my own custom settings right after. What's really amazing is Cablenut is the only utility I've found that can tweak Upload speed as demonstrated here:

    Windows default settings.

    :::.. Upload Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 1325 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

    Upload Speed is:: 162 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1)

    Test Time:: Thu Dec 22 2005 09:43:30 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)

    Bottom Line:: 24X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 6.32 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 327.42 % faster than the average for host (rr.com)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9S6EUTMPN

    After Cablenut:

    :::.. Upload Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 1927 Kbps about 1.9 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

    Upload Speed is:: 235 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1)

    Test Time:: Thu Dec 22 2005 09:50:38 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)

    Bottom Line:: 34X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 4.36 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 521.61 % faster than the average for host (rr.com)

    Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-8KUAWI71T

  15. First thing to do is run both download and upload tests here and post the results, that way we can get an idea of the speeds you are getting currently. Bittorrent is not a good way to measure speed as it's dependent on the speed of who you are downloading from.

  16. ok your traceroute looks fine and is within the Latency I set for the files. Do this, it's going to take editing the cablenut files I posted. Open cablenut. then remove the values in the following boxes:

        *  MaxNormLookupMemory

        * MaxFreeTcbs

        * MaxHashTableSize

        * FastSendDatagramThreshhold

    then reboot and test again. Some DSL connections have problems with those settings.
