  1. what I was saying was that usually P2P is used to download pirated movies, music, games etc. That's all i'm not saying the technology itself is ilegal. Also keep in mind that how P2P works specifically bittorrent if they add more capacity P2P will eat it faster and that eventually rises costs for everyone. So you have to actually MANAGE your bandwith correctly that is why i'm saying that they should shape the traffic when they have to or at least permit faster speeds than 2k. Have you noticed that since they started shaping the traffic we have not had low speeds or high latencies any longer?
  2. Even though bittorrent has legitimate uses you must admit that illegal use is higher than legal use. I would be happy if onelink only capped the P2P during high traffic hours or when their network is very congested not all the time. You have to remember that they now offer VOIP and if the network gets laggy their VOIP service will be affected.
  3. he has ares and the speeds don't go above 1kb and he doesn't know why this is happening.
  4. consider DSL through PRW instead of DSL through PRT. PRW has no lag and normal speeds.
  5. Dmax is not an alternative stay away from it. They have been having serious issues with latency and slow speeds. Too bad the OFFICIAL dmax forum died after users repeateadly pointed this out. For P2P in onelinke all you need is a bit of ingenuity that's it.
  6. I have no problems downloading from bittorrent. I just use private trackers and newsgroups and I can pretty much download everything FULL speed. Make sure you pick a high port in utorrent/azureus, and enable encryption that helps a lot.
  7. haha the problem is always the user. In my case they detected a problem in a transmitter in my area and even though it no longer disconnects my speeds are not the best.
  8. yes however my case is a bad transmitter support also said that everything was ok the technician came in and with a tester proved the line had problems that were not detectable by the modem.
  9. right next to you and I have the same issues, I called them up and all they are going to do is send in a technician to see with his own eyes since they obviously don't believe me and the line stats say everything is working fine.

  13. ok thanks it seems they are having some problems again, thought I was alone in this.
  14. is anyone else having issues with onelink's speed? :::.. This is with the modem connected directly to the computer and a freshly formatted PC.
  15. as the readme says they probably disabled snmp I would imagine since that is one of the ways you could go around uncapping your modem. However after the choice cable lawsuits against uncappers it would be foolish to do so in any cable provider.
  16. Well my connection is now 100% fully fixed. The issue was a tweak somewhere deep within the registry. I managed to backtrack it to a change made by autopatcher under the tweaks section. After reseting all tweaks done and all the TCP/IP stack my speeds are perfect. :::.. I also returned the 5120 modem to compusa and bought the 5101 at the onelink offices (significantly cheaper at 54.99 over 79.99 at compusa)

  18. how come I can't get anywhere CLOSE to 4 megabits. I stay in the 600 - 1500 range.
  19. trust me the speeds are the same on a formatted PC or not, in fact I connect my mac directly to the network and that's the most speed I get. I already tried network card, cable modem, computer, I even test my work laptop to see if it has the same speed issues and yes. I'm calling them again now to re-activate my old terayon modem and taking back the linksys for my money back. It does work and latencies seem pretty stable but now i'm 100% sure it's not my computer or equipment. And I cannot use cablenut because my speeds fluctuate too much.
  20. New modem or not these are my speed results: :::..
