  1. My guess is that when downloading a big file you probl will see a average speed very close to your cap. 4000/ 8 = 500 KB/s Bittorent is not a good speedtester, and latency cant be tweaked. you wont get same result over and over again, unless you have a very clean route to testserver. VanBuren
  2. hey mbrainerd and welcome to the forum make a tracert against testmy.net start-run type cmd and hit enter type tracert testmy.net and hit enter right click and copy all and paste it here so we can see it. VanBuren
  3. hey bananabeans i remember helping you before, did your ISP fix your ping issue? VanBuren

  12. hey again bcraig, like RTB said trace is nothing abnormal just some spikes, do you have a router? If so unplug it and hook up your pc directly against modem and try speed again, and also a new tracert. VanBuren
  13. some theplanet nodes block ping after a while, so you cant flood em and that show up as packetloss. here is my trace against testmy.net VanBuren
  14. compare that when you have lousy speed and when you have good speed VanBuren
  15. the problem is to find what node thats unstable, but ping flooding each node will show you, but its alot of work compared to Neotrace. Reply from 10.32.107.1: bytes=999 time=36ms TTL=254 this node ping suppose to be around 5-15 ms I dont think the problem is at your equipment but, you can try pinging with pc directly connected to the modem. if its not too much work for you, keep on ping flooding your route all the way to testmy.net and see what nodes thats unstable, VanBuren
  16. you should get Neotrace, then leave it on pinging the complete route for a few min each time. Here is a ss how the ping can look like, max min values for each node, my guess its just very unstable at those times, VanBuren
  17. Very nice indeed, you must have a good route to my server VanBuren
  18. yea thats correct, phone wire dosent grow But using your modem in first phone jacket, will minimize the risk that the problem is at your home. This problem is out of your control, you need to contact your ISP and complain, make tracerts and add date and time so they got something to work with. VanBuren
  19. strange, dont worry be happy VanBuren
  20. your modem has a middlebox socket right? So you can use both modem and a phone in main jacket? What i mean is that its best to have the modem direct connected to the main phone jacket. And if your pc in further away, then use a long LAN cable from modem instead. alot of phone extension wires will bring down your speed. VanBuren
